Hi, I had to get a new phone and bought a new Google Pixel 7 which just came out. I just tried to pair it with my multi and it does not even recognise it, just 'No Device' in pairing mode I had my old Pixel 3 with me and that still pairs fine. I've been trying to find the bike's Bluetooth stack specs so I can workout why it doesn't work but can't find much. Does anyone know where I can find that information?
The DMS module is Bluetooth 2.0, so pretty ancient tech for a start. One of it's widely publicised inherent problems is handling data streaming to the Ducati Link app and calls/music simultaneously. It seemingly cannot do both (at least not very well). I believe even Ducati themselves have at one point advised against trying this. The module does open a second BT stream to facilitate this, but this is where the problems start. In terms of connectivity to your new phone, have you deleted your old phone from the bike, before you tried to connect this new one? If you want the specs of the unit, take a look at the attached images. The unit is manufactured under licence to Ducati by COBO S.p.A in Italy.
Thanks for the info, that's great and I'll check it out. It's seems pretty unbelievable that a simple Bluetooth pairing cannot be made.
Forgot to answer your questions. Yes I removed the old phone first. I've also gone through all of the developer options on the phone and tried each setting to see if it helped but all to no avail. Is this bluetooth MDS definitely for the Multistrada V4? Just checking in case it was for the other V4 bike.
Ducati state it is compatible with a number of bikes but frankly their support for the Ducati Link app is appalling. If you own a Multistrada V4 you would be using the Ducati Connect app instead, so somewhat immaterial in my instance, though the connectivity the latter offers and the interface is much better, akin to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Other bike models such as the Panigale V4, provide a basic media and calls interface on the dash and data logging of your ride when used with the Ducati Link app, but as I said the DMS module uses an ancient BT 2.0 chipset so struggles to handle both calls/media and data logging simultaneously. It might fair better using the Connect app however.
Okay cool thanks that helped me understand a bit more. Looks like the module you posted the specs for is different to the newer Multi V4S media unit. I still can't find any details about that though. Will just keep trying to play around with it. Thanks for your help though
I created a simple spreadsheet in case anyone would like to help out and list working/non-working devices. Might help others buy something known to work without having to scan all threads. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BaZ4zSufKDp4gh6p-qrPPM-ul1tPE1P79_A-QrWoTrc/edit#gid=0
I added a few items to your list. And added 7 Pro to your Pixel 7 cell. My 7 Pro is not found by the bike Tried to change the name to add (incl. Pikes Peak) but that is a protected cell
I spoke to Ducati, well in fact they called me back after I raised a custom service request. Apparently they are looking in to Android 13 bluetooth connection problems (default OS version in Pixel 7) as they've had a number of people contacting them. We'll see what happens, they didn't have any more news than that yet. I also spoke to Google but they didn't have any useful information to offer either.
Thanks for the info, that's great to know. I'll add a column to the spreadsheet to indicate OS version too.
Just for info as most won't go as far, the newest Android 13 QPR beta also has the same bluetooth issue. It is "weird" that the phone connects to my Cardos, my Aprilia MIA, my wife's Triumph Tiger 900 bluetooth, various bluetooth speakers and computers. At this point, I'd have to say the issue is with the bike, not the phone or android.
Dudicus, could you make up a similar spreadsheet for the Ducati Link app, which is the software platform owners will be using with the DMS module, who are not on a Multistrada. It does not provide the sophistication of the Connect app nor the comprehensive 'Apple CarPlay' or 'Android Auto-esque' on screen display options on the Multistrada but it does provide an on screen music player, as well as a messaging and calls function, plus a data recording feature during each ride, which can be retreived through the app. The Link app itself is not without it's problems (since Ducati seem to have lost interest in it's development following their investment in the Connect app) and it is still seemingly unable to stream both data and or calls/media at the same time (possibly due to the ageing Bluetooth 2.0 chipset in the DMS module) so you can only do one or the other. With this being said and with those restrictions in mind, I can reliably connect to it every time (currently using a Samsung S20 Ultra). Pairs with my Sena 50S without a hitch.
Yeah not working here either. I was trying to find out some more info and discovered many other devices are having issues with some Android 13 Bluetooth changes. For example: Amazon Eero devices (wifi routers) unable to pair - last Google comment on December 15th https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/262484178 Tesla products https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/242755161#comment28 I also found someone registered a bug for their Multistrada here: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/258791564 It could possibly help if you all click on the multistrada bug and hit the "+1" button near the top. Make them understand its a more widespread issue. They probably know already but every little bit of pushing does help.
My first report was bundled to the one dudicus linked above. Here is my report for the most recent public beta and BT still not working... https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/262315508
Finally some good news! I'd kind of lost hope that it would ever work, but today I went to the dealer to see about my chain and I asked if they could check for any software updates too. Well, I just managed to pair my Pixel 7 (Android 13 - security update: 5th May) with the bike and use Ducati connect app, which suprisingly fully connected first time too - madness! Hopefully that comes as a nice bit of news to some of you, it's been bugging me a bit and so I'm actually smiling for now. Still need to see if it works well on a journey and stay connected, but I'll do that tomorrow. For now I'm going to crack open a beer.
