I thought I'd give the old girl a bit of a clean today and take the fairing off. To my surprise and horror I found that the lower fork clamp had cracked near the pinch bolts. Typical sign of overtightening, may be, I had the forks out a number of years ago. The question is finding a replacement is proving challenging to say the least, so would one from the i.e. fit? Thanks
If you are willing to buy from France...pretty cheap at 45€ https://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_moto/2352720858.htm
Slight problem trying to buy from the site. It only seems to allow French buyers, it wont set up an account with a uk phone number. Do you have an account already so that you can aquire it on my behalf?
I don't mind sorting this for you at cost, I'll ask the seller if it is still available...we can switch to DM...
With this issue I now have the oppertunity to install tapered roller bearings. Does anyone have any information on any particular manufacturer to go for?
If you are talking 900SS I think it this, but please check sizes before purchase. 52 od 26 id 15 thk taper roller beaing Skf 639174 If you have an "Acorn Industrial Services" near I found them to be reasonable. I bought one from a car parts web site and when it came I thought it look suspect. The etching and finish did not look up to the usual SKF standard, so buy from reputable supplier. Cheers Gaz
I have seen a number of trading standards warnings about “fake”/cheap copy bearings being offered on the internet. I used to use a local supplier but some of the bearings have been designated “automotive” by the manufacturer so no longer available to some resellers. There is a French company who come recommended but for the life of me, can’t find a link. Andy
A lot of people use 123roulement over here («roulement» being the French for «bearing»). https://www.123roulement.com/
