Buying a Van for Trackdays

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by willyduke, Jul 31, 2013.

  1. I have posted picks before but my closed trailer has been a good investment. I bought it more than 5 years ago and have done thousands of miles with it.

I can get two bikes in, fuel +++, up to 1 ton load. Tow it at 80 mph no problem and it has cost me 25 pounds a year in insurance, the only running costs since new.

Only negative side is that there is no suspension.

I fitted two wheel clamps ( bump stop) which was the best thing I did and makes loading miles easier.

When I get to the track I pull the wheel clams out, stick a double blow up matress and it become my Ibis!

    Last weekend at Nogaro, France.

  2. Transporter t5. Had mine for a year now, use it daily. Wouldn't be without it now.

  3. Ive an old VW t2 Campervan. I considered strapping a trailer to it and towing the bike. However it may be quicker for me to use the bike to tow the camper.

  4. I use my Vito Sport 204 (chipped to 254bhp). Love it! Drives like a car, looks ace and goes like fuck. And gets me to and from trackdays. Quite quickly....

  5. 245bhp? I laugh at 245bhp in my 50hp air cooled VW....erm...

  6. Now that is a proper set up, love it! :upyeah:

  7. Totally agree, great set-up and love the starter roller, is it a TZ350 F or G (H!)?, I used to have a TZ250G with Lectron Carbs and Swarbrick pipes, it was a really quick bike in it's day, always loved TZ's and I notice a few people on the forum seem to have the odd one tucked away.

  8. I just bought this

Just got this for trackdays, not picked it up yet, but will get two bikes and all my gear in it. Then have somewhere to sit and have a brew too.
Going to fit two front wheel chocks and tie down points, was some originally fitted but previous owner removed them.
When not doing trackdays will be handy for transporting other stuff to and from the caravan.

  9. Has anyone run a VW caddy before (LWB)? Am concerned with the height clearance for getting a 1098 in (just at the door lip).
Theres not a lot in it according to the tech specs of bike and van, but maybe with the way the front wheel will be in
and the rear still lower on the ramp, it could be doable?

  10. I have seen a long wheelbase version that might be possible but I reckon it would be hard work on the headroom.

  11. Iv managed to squeeze 3 bikes in the back of a SWB Vivaro and a VW T5 with all the kit. 2 in nose first one in the middle facing out.

You ca fit a bike in a caddy & a Transit connect. You need to fold the passenger seat down though. It's a pain in the bum...

  12. I Have a standard c20 caddy as my company transport and I fitted my Panigale in it at the weekend. I wasn't sure if it would fit but it got in and all the stuff you need. I was trying it out as I've booked my first ever trackday for next Thursday at knockhill
