Tinted Visors

I have one of these for my (seldom worn) Arai. It doesn’t go dark enough for really bright days but they are worthwhile if you can’t be arsed carrying two visors.

 

I'm not so much a rebel, I am more of an idiot.

 

I wear a dark tint and have done forever. Much like as in the small number plate discussion, if you don't act like a tool then you don't give bobby law a reason to give you a tug.

 

Are dark visors actually illegal then?

And if so what about wearing sunglasses regardless of the time of day or vehicle been driven?

 

Visors which transmit 50% or more of available light are legal to use in the UK in normal light conditions if they are BS / EC marked. They are still illegal to use in times of poor visibility / night time. Poor visibility is generally held as being the same as seriously reduced visibility ie unable to clearly see 100m or more. I'm not aware that this has been fully tested at court but the 50% light transmission element has on numerous occasions. Sunglasses are not legislated for per se but were you to have an accident wearing them at night and the inability to be able to see clearly was a contributory factor you coanbe reported for careless driving and I am aware of several prosecutions along those lines.

If I know I will be riding in daylight only I always use a tinted visor. I’ve never been stopped, but I haven’t been to any biker haunts aka as easy pickings

 

I used to ride with dark visors, and carry a spare clear one, but its a faff. So instead I have switched to a "sunstrip" on the top of my visor which cuts the brightness dramatically. I wear sunglasses too if its super bright sunshine.

No issues ever with the fuzz or riding at night and imo a better solution than dark visors.

 

Similar to this; I've got an integral drop down in the current lid so the visor is clear. It wouldn't be the be all & end all of choosing a lid, but I'd prefer to have a drop down in a new one. If it didn't have one I'd probably use sunglasses rather than a tinted visor.

He was probably at least half the reason I bought one!

 

McQueen was the epitome of cool when it came to bikes.No one else like him.

 

I seem to recall that threads with this title would usually result in death threats on the OG pre-TWO takeover Visordown in the early noughties. Sigh…..I miss those days - life was so much simpler back then.

 

Come on now - you can’t just put that out there without providing a full backstory, preferably with photos and diagrams.

 

Ive already mentioned that I rode a lambretta along Ryde seafront pissed as a newt wearing only a grass skirt somewhere else. I cant recall the judgement as I've had shitloads anyway. Prob, no licence, tax, mot, DD, etc etc. I think that was included in my offences for my 2wk stint in Wandsworth...along with riding on a ban...my mate rode my lammie home from IoW. When I eventually got it back it was covered in used tea bags as he flicked them onto it from his kitchen.

It was shortly afterwards when I decided to sort my life out.

Edit: oh and resisting arrest was also on there as i failed to stop and had them chase me along the seafront in their pandas. I was getting egged on by other scooterists and felt encouraged to carry on by peer pressure. Honest guv'ner
