Having decided to hang on to my Mk 1 1200S for a while longer - it works brilliantly, hasn't broken down (much) and is as utterly hooligan as I'd want it to be, I decided to treat it to a new front master cylinder (17RCS) to go with the M50 calipers previously added. So ordered with trepidation from Carpimoto, as I haven't used them since the feckwittery of Brexit. Ordered on Monday. Arrived on my doorstep this morning. WTF etc…
Most UK retailer web sites don't work properly, often don't have stock and (in this case) are 50% more expensive AFTER I've paid duty and VAT.
Thats a brave statement. I disagree about 'most' dont work. Ive not really had any probs. Ive just fitted all sorts to my 1299. No probs. Next day delivery and competatively priced. While were at it, I have an item on order from Italy. Ordered on 14th. Its sat in customs atm.
Thers only really one I avoid - Reactive. Addiction Motorsport and BikeHPS, BikeTorqueRacing have all been 1st class. But at the end of the day, we all have differing experiences and we favour those ones that were less hassle. The RCS is a great mod.
Thread revival, I slapped on some series oro discs and next year my first goal is to finish the brake upgrade. I'm thinking the same as you, M50 with 17RCS. How did you find the upgrade? Worth it?
Definitely - I ran the M50s for about a year with the OEM M/C: whilst the M50s had good bite and were powerful, they felt a bit wooden and the ultimate braking effort required was higher than I liked - I’m very much a 2-finger braker, and of course with the multi’s long travel suspension, you want a fine progression to braking effort. The 17Rcs gave me just that, improving things in either setting. My personal preference is for the slightly ‘harder’ cam. My multi is the ‘10-11 model and the biggest effort was in resculpting the hand guard to sit right and clear the M/C. Definitely easier with a Dremel or similar, but it ended up looking just fine.
Thanks mate! Exactly what I was looking for! As for the handguards, I have tall carbon fibre ones (these), maybe they'll help? If not, I'll dremel away. My biggest issue with the brakes is as you say, dull and with the long travel, the OEM's become almost a guessing game of bite level sometimes. The Oro discs and red pads helped a tad, but mostly in smoothening out. Not control.
Service your calipers and deglaze your discs. You'll be amazed at the improvement. There's a YT channel, just the way it is, who demonstrates the service and it totally transformed my braking set up on standard calipers and discs.
Good advice, will try the deglaze. Do take the calipers off and strip once a year or so for a service. I just don't find the brakes adequate for fast/track riding
I always wound the lever right out, too far tbh but that’s for me to manage, and found it went from spongy and progressive to lots of bite and more stopping power need for track and very quick road rides in my multis
