I may be biased, but I think that looks bloody horrible. The exposed bolt heads all over the engine make the bike look cheap.
There’s a lot to like about these new Street/Speed Triples,…and also a lot to hate about them… Agree about the bolts, the old engines were even worse! Also I just can’t unsee that rear brake pipe, sticks out like a sore thumb with it being silver, ..why not black ffs ?? or even better, hide it inside the swingarm like the 899 does ? A little bit more thought and attention to detail would make these bikes look far nicer, tidier and better quality. But by far and away the biggest pile of sh1te about the Street/ Speed is the dashboard, utter ! I think it must have been designed by some 19 year old art school student who doesn’t even ride a bike,…pastel coloured “butterfly wing “ Rev counter anyone??… dear god who the f.. thought that was a good idea? Also the human eye/brain is used to reading data horizontally or vertically,..not bloody diagonally ! And why the heck are these optically crap dashes mounted so far down the forks that you can hardly see them? I’d like to spend a couple of days in Triumphs design department and try and talk some sense into them,.. when you’re “making progress “ ..you need to be able to just glimpse at the dash for the information you need, with these you need to literally “ study” them for far too long. Sack the designer instantly Triumph and while you’re on, sack the manager who authorised it to go into production, to me they ruin the bikes and I just wouldn’t buy one with those dashes on. However,..those triple engines sound absolutely fantastic when they’re being thrashed !
Owned 3 Triumphs a ST 900, a T595 and a Tiger all were great bikes. But I’ve found other bikes more appealing since then than Triumphs offerings. But the build and finish manufacture quality has remained constant not withstanding some of the choices on colour coordination with the bolts and brake lines. I can’t comment on the dash as I’ve not even test ride one just casually looked at them in dealers.
Not to be the one defending Triumph as I'm unlikely to be successful given the forum we are on, but why I agree with you on the Street Triple Dash (the early TFT Street Triple dash was better), the new Speed Triples have a totally different dash, and while mine can be a bit slow and laggy at first start, it's got a traditional style rev counter and clear display, and the Satnav display option itself is amazing (just needs the app to be updated so the nav works better).
I like the 765. Dash display is crap but not a dealbreaker. I have no doubt one will appear in my garage at sometime.
I switched from a long line of air-cooled Monsters to a Street Triple because the plumbing for ALL water-cooled Monsters is a carbuncle - and something that Triumph do a much better job of imho.
I still don't understand why everyone is so upset about Engine bolts? I mean... Shiny Engine bolts or flaky engine paint... I know which I'd rather have
Its because the engine bolts are shiney and havent tarnished at the first sign of water. Additionally the ones shown havent rattled loose and fallen off. They are happy to pay a 5k premium for bikes that are frankly poor quality in many areas. Just because it has a ducati badge. All the while we accept this, ducati will increase prices and lower build quality. Thier priority is shareholders, not us the consumer.
tbf I noticed between my 848 and 899, the design quality of the 899 is really good, the packaging is fantastic. The build quality and quality of all fittings and fasteners though is probably 25% worse
And wasn't it from the 899 that they stopped lacquering the paint on the 'smaller' models? Pretty poor for a brand positioning itself as premium.
True,..and the paintwork is really soft, I’ve had PPF on mine from new and it’s more than paid for itself
I test rode the V4S streetfighter as that was the bike I thought I wanted until the test ride and so I took a Speed triple 1200RS out for a test and bought one a few months later. 1600 miles on it and I have absolutely no regrets which was a strange sensation after only riding Ducati's for so long.
I have to agree, the quality of the fasteners on Ducati's is shocking and corrode or tarnish within weeks of use!
I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my bike recently, as it’s sat in the garage most of the time. Last night I took it out for a quick 100 mile circuit into West Sussex, and home, and ached like hell when I got home, as our roads are shit and this bike needs super smooth roads to come into its own. But this morning, most of the aches are gone, and the bike just looks so good, so I’m going to keep it for the foreseeable. It’s a good second bike to the V4PP, and a completely different ride.
Mine spends too long in the garage, but I've put 2,200 miles on it since new, so the miles do add up - I really need to do a road trip, which is what I said I'd do when I chopped in my 959 + Street Triple. There's definitely enjoyment from knowing it's there, so I'm keeping mine.
Yeah I think it’s at about 1850 miles in a year, which is shameful. My pikes peak has done nearly 8k in a year, so that says it all! Still nice to have it there.
