  6. Longest ride yesterday for a while, 47 miles to Shearwater Cafe, which is on or next to the Longleat estate. Great cake and the coffee was very good as well. Today a gentle 20 miles with my mate who has just started chemo for his prostate cancer will see me over the weekly 75 mile target, not bad as I was in New Orleans until Wednesday evening.

  7. Just bumped into a friend who rides for the U.K. Tri team, she has a new bike, fitted with this https://speedfil.com/hydration-systems/f1#1456026403398-87c3bace-faa6
I thought that looks a good idea until I saw the price.
She also has a bolted on AirTag (last bike stolen from a Competition compound) I think I might fit one under my bottle frame, not a lot of money from Amazon.

  8. Welcome change of pace and body position today. 40 miles on the MTB.
    Engaged in some shinrin-yoku .

  9. Did 44k today with Bro 2 and his youngest son who’s over from America. Great ride. 22k there, a cafe con leche and 22 back. 993m ascent! That’ll be the reason I got an ebike. 2133F758-EC21-453D-B662-7A2151935A38.jpeg B3A6FAD4-CD66-46AD-9556-5179CEB0CF74.jpeg F83032F3-306E-47C0-8203-05F6F9325BBE.png

  11. It must be me, I can’t understand the clamour and crazy prices for choppers.

The Raleigh Chopper was of my childhood, a number of friends had them, but I found them uncomfortable, unwieldy and in my case unobtainable.

Maybe I’m still harbouring a grudge that my parents wouldn’t buy my brother and I new bikes.

  12. took me a while to understand, but i think it's along the lines of what Mr or Mrs average think is appealing, gets their attention that then leads to a general desirability* and then a rising price tag, particularly if not easy to obtain. I agree, (doesn't appeal that much) and it just says that i'm not average maybe. I ought to hastily add, nothing wrong with being average.

*sometimes this is well-earnt because of it's superior design or performance compared to competitors, sometimes not at all!!

  14. I owned a Chopper BITD they were great bikes for fun and two up riding, however I grew out of it and bought a proper pusho. They were a novelty bike back then I guess for most they’re just a bit of nostalgia and for the cafe a bit of a talking point for customers.

  16. Attempted to go for a ride via the chemists in Salisbury, whilst waiting for the prescription to be made up I got talking to an old boy who had also cycled. Whilst discussing the pros and cons of tubeless he pointed out my rear tyre was deformed. It had a number of bumps or blisters. So instead of going for a ride I visited the LBS who fitted new Panaracer Agilest TLR25 tyres and Supacaz Kush red bar tape.

By the time I left it was too warm and lunchtime so took route 1 home

  17. I’m now completely hooked on Assos Mille GT bib shorts and longs for the colder rides. I just haven’t got the same happiness with summer tops. Winter I’m wearing Cafe Castelli with zip off arms and they’re great.

I have a right mixed bag including Stolen Goat, fat lad at the back (favourite, no longer available) Assos, Funkier.

Prefer short sleeves, three pockets at back, one on chest, prefer not to have the sticky strip around the arm.

What are others using that they recommend and still available ?

  18. Pheew, where to start.....

I use fox padding /armour on mtb with short knee and elbow but knee and shin are 7protection.

Fox titan liner shorts on mtb and road liners on roadie. Pukka mtb shorts over liners on mtb only (I've embraced the spandex shorts look on the roadie). Deko make decent mtb shorts at reasonable money. I get through mtb gear at a fair rate, gloves and shorts take a real battering.

I use shimano footwear (shoes and boots) (I'm clipped in using spd on all) all same cleat system (mtb) even on road, easier to walk in. I do use versa peddles for mtb techy stuff where i want to be clipped out.

I've a variety of kit though, I also use a harlvessens armoured top that's great for cooler weather mtb.

I find i need gel insert gloves on the drops, stops my left thumb aching (age)

Always poc lids (road and mtb)

There's also the cycling tops I use on the road, long sleeved but thin, they're triban.

We've not even started with the tyre and mechanics preferances.

It's no cheap hobby is cranking the peddles
