After a 2 year break from Ducati, I’m back with a new diavel v4. Had two great years on a Triumph speed triple 1200 RS and a short stint on a 221 rocket 3R, but when I saw the launch shots of the diavel I had to have one. i previously had the diavel 1260s and didn’t gel with the gearbox, but this new v4 is so nice to ride. I would say it’s a better ride that the rocket and that’s a really nice bike to ride. Only managed a 100 miles since picking up but loving it. have the exhaust titanium covers on order along with tpms and just waiting for evotech to have some goodies ready
That is a lovely looking bike. I'm seriously tempted, once they are a little 2nd at least, for one of these. They look like the perfect bike to me. Comfy, fast, great looking. What's not to like? Oh, the price.
I think its the best looking new Ducati for a while. Sat on the JHP demo bike a few weeks back and its very well balanced. Outside my price bracket though and still struggle with liking that huge rear tyre. bet they dont last long.
So How are you getting on with it?.... Tempted by one.... need to take a test ride I guess... but waiting to see if an S launches this year.
I change my bikes a lot, as I find it hard to get the one i can keep that ticks all the boxes, and most importantly for me enjoyable. Over the last 2 year's I have owned a diavel 1260s, Triumph speed triple 1200 RS and a rocket 221 r, this for me beats them all. It’s a fantastic bike to ride, the engine and gearbox make this bike. There are some negatives, there are 2 recalls but expected for a new model, only a race option currently for a £5k exhaust, the sat nav and Ducati link are poor, great when it works, but disconnects a lot, it can get hot, but the rear cylinder deactivation helps, the suspension isn’t as goods as the 1260s. But for me these are all minor and fixable. As I have aged, I put ease of use and comfort top of my list. I want a gearbox that’s easy to find neutral, smooth at speed and just works, the seating is right for me, can do hours riding, and always enjoy. You have to ride one, to see if it’s right for you. I have been riding almost 40 years, had so many bikes and for me, this is one of the best I have ever owned. Not the best looking but by far the best to ride.
I was talking to my dealer about that the other day. There isn’t one on the horizon yet, but if I bought one, I’d want the full system and Ohlins, so spending over £30k on a bike with boggo suspension doesn’t really sit right with me tbh. I daren’t take one out, as I’m sure all that would go out of the window, then a few months down the line, when the S comes out, I’d be sulking.
Had the 600 mile service done today, we tweaked the suspension and wow what a difference. It’s never going to be as good as ohlins, but it’s so nice. If I do want more, been chatting to Maxton and they have a cartridge kit for the forks and will have a rear soon, expect to pay between £1500-£2000. But that’s only if you can’t get the factory stuff right. We have got it set right for me as it’s spot on. Asked the dealer about an s and nothing official, the current line is no, but if they did it would be a £30k bike. This for me is a keeper
Have a Multistrada 1260 pikey Pete and thinking of the Diavel V4…. What the version after a years riding?
Sold the diavel v4 after buying a multistrada v4, much better bike. Found the tuning on the multi far easier to use and enjoy. Replaced the diavel with a rocket, such an amazing lazy bike, much better than the diavel.
Found I needed to keep the revs high to get a smooth ride, which you don’t need to with the multi or the rocket, it’s meant to be a cruiser type bike, but tuned more like a sports bike. Found I couldn’t just have an enjoyable ride. Felt like I was always racing the engine. If I wanted that, would have gone for a street fighter but wanted a lazier bike. I know some will love that, and suppose that’s why there are so many bikes to choose from, depends what you want from a ride. But try to get a longer test ride if you can, I had a an hours ride when I decided to buy, but as soon as I had done a few multi hour rides, it wasn’t for me.
I bought a SFV4S in March and haven't really gelled with the riding position (bad back) and suspension even though it's fully customisable. Not as good (comfy) to ride as my SF1098S! Had a go on the Diavel the other week and now swapping my SFV4s for a black one. Can't wait to get it and enjoy what's left of any summer we've had.
I sat on a Diavel V4 at the weekend, and it felt good. I'm interested to see if they launch an S version with Ohlins etc.
