HI I've just seen a nice 916 locally to me via someone who knew someone kinda situation and I am wondering what a low mile or sub 1000 mile 916 Biposto would be worth theses days? There isn't really anything around on the usual platforms to compare well at least recently.. Been sat for many years owner now deceased but in good condition.. So what would one be worth in a it Needs a refurb condition and what would it be worth when complete? Front what i can tell it's mint But very dusty and only very slight Oxidation on some of the passivate coatings. I am aware it's going to need a full recommission, Belts, fuel pump, fuel lines, all fluids, fork seal most likely plus a fair few other things. I think it's still on it's original tyres... I guess budget for parts and work would be £2-3K ??? and i can do most of the work myself Thanks for any advice given
Can’t help you with regards values but you might find some useful information on this thread https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/916-restoration.94812/ Good luck.
depends on how its been stored,if its been in a damp shed id walk away, if in a warm dry shed could be worth looking at. really need to be looked at before buying it.
If the seller’s family do the usual and look on eBay, they will have a (very) distorted idea of the bike’s worth, way too many dreamers. Your £2k to £3k estimate is likely to be an underestimate. IMO, if you pay £6k as a non runner, there’ll be no profit if you are thinking of moving it on but if it's a keeper, you’ll have a nice 916 to ride. FWIW, I’d start at £5k (or a cheeky £4500) and go from there. Andy
I paid £3.5k for my '98 916 bip back in 2009. It had just had oils, filters, belts etc and it had around 3500 miles on the clock. I stripped it back to basics and cleaned it to within an inch of its life, fitted new rubber front brake hoses and a s/h original clutch slave along with the original 3 spoke wheels and silencers that came with it. My aim was to put it back to standard spec as it would have been new. In all I think I spent about £500 to do it and ended up with a nice pile of parts left over, Ferraci carbon cans, 5 spoke wheels red painted mirrors, oberon cluch slave and a couple of other bits. There are photos in my album whuch show it finished and a couple of work in progress.I have my own view of its currenf value with 4500 miles and others may have a different view but one thing is sure, it's worth more than it owes me which is nice but at the moment not that important as I don't intend to sell it for a long time yet.
Yes to the inflated price tag, one reason for asking the Forum, It would certainly be a keeper but obviously don't want to Pay over odds..
What year is it as Varese models ie a 94, are silly money as some think theyre have some kudos. No, its the same as my 98 916. But the market is high for these models as investors drive prices up. If its truly a keeper, then paying slightly over the odds doesnt matter for a good honest bike. The bike is the thing, not the money.
MY97 so not an early Cagiva factory bike... I don't get the Cagiva thing either.. it's the same bike after all.. I don't like paying over the odds especially as it will need work and money throwing at it but it's a very honest bike. I just need to work out what a Mint 97 low mile 916 BP would fetch market wise then i can work back from that figure.. I know these kind of post are really open ended. as it's already been said Ebay and dealer prices are miss leading.
The little 916-watching I’ve done seems to show 916 runners between 8500 and 12000 from dealers, possibly £7000 private. The figures suggested already for refurbish projects seem accurate. If you can get it for the “cheeky 4.5K” you’ll be quids in.
couple of photos the owner didn't mind me taking. 356286728_805543391241180_6275542802413243616_n by mark morgan, on Flickr I noted the 423 Cagiva Stamp ? were later bikes still stamped Cagiva? 356293858_295627933038222_6407924840093645142_n by mark morgan, on Flickr Original tyre and wheel 356295537_989749968730458_3580396703173668527_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 356295548_822275596178703_5558868387021867501_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 356297537_779257307216985_119280650976747268_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 356303183_726987839231303_3722989839198928275_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 356305375_2779651972175640_3268571709869659473_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 358150436_1005317657260655_9215394491094791297_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 358523680_541106251419870_4687969455465873447_n by mark morgan, on Flickr 359684352_149612941475718_3275642944188342377_n by mark morgan, on Flickr
Yeah the values mentioned 4-5k seem a fair price. if only because it's going to need a throrough re-condition, e.g. thats a rockers and valve, belts, rectifier, filters x 3 job. It looks VERY clean though, Some TLC needed for sure, some new fasteners etc. It's seen some use, as the Main Beam looks to be fogged ? But otherwise looks like a right barn find. Just a shame about the colour... but hey ;-P
owner won't go anywhere near £5k or £6k so i've left it with them for a few months .. I think they've seen the £70K Foggy bike up for Auction
Yeah I think they will be disappointed if they're expecting some kind of premium. It might be worth more if it was pristine...
