Checked the coolant just now it's still the same level as the other day The sun was shining through and I could see my finger through the inside of the tank and the coolant level was NO where near max line (it is now) I have read that the r53 fan will stay on if there isn't enough coolant (which makes sense) I have let her idle for a bit and I can't see any leaks on the floor Will go out in a bit and check again.
It might be time to get a professional to look at it now you’ve exhausted all the usual suspects but haven’t found the problem
@Ducbird You hum the tune and i'll sing the lyrics....................more photobombing. I picked this one up with a trailer on the 13th from a clients son, washed and waxed it, plus a few other things ready for a sale, which was yesterday. I left plenty of meat on the bone for next owner as you do.
@Ducbird Did you ever get to the bottom of the coolant loss problem? I had the alternator/power steering belt snap as I was overtaking a middle lane dawdler on the M11 in rush hour the other day, which was interesting, as it lost loads of power (it went into “limp mode”) and the power steering at the same time and I then had to negotiate two lanes of cvnts beeping at and trying to block me while trying to make it over to the hard shoulder. Given that it wouldn’t go over 30mph and trying to steer was like arm wrestling, I thank God I wasn’t on one of those dumb motorways without a hard shoulder or I would have been in a lot of trouble and probably would have got rear ended.
Hi @Zhed46 It looks like the coolant tank seal is on its way out I'm booking mini in this week to replace it now as the new one is here.
Blimey zhed!! my power steering pump went a couple years back luckily started her at home and couldn't steer away from kerb.
My blue one had bubbling in the coolant expansion tank with plenty of rust on show when i ran it up for the first time in two plus years, so for me it was the head gasket based on what i'd read up etc, this information was passed onto the new garage owner. The radiator thermostat switch and fan could have caused this problem, so make sure yours is working correctly.
As promised @Ducbird , my mum's new works mini, well it'd 300 odd miles on the speedometer when she received it and now 3500mls, it's the manual model and she's just loving it.! The last time she'd a mini was fifty odd years ago.
Just spotted these. So nice…. I’m tempted https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2012-mini-john-cooper-works-gp2-3
I had a mini cooper s track car and the coolant system is a pig to get right. Firstly get a new cap (and keep an extra spare) as the seals are shite. The coolant system is very difficult to get all of the air out of the system which will if not done result in coolant loss. Best way i found was to use a vacuum coolant fill system which puts the coolant system under vacuum before allowing the vacuum to pull in the required coolant with no air locks. This solved my issues! Until i dropped a valve around Cadwell park lol. Hope this helps Ps it was running around 243 HP at the wheels. Ignore the sun strip!! I removed soon after this picture ha ha ha
No i spent last winter rebuilding the engine after the dropped valve pretty much trashed my lump and pistons. Then decided i did not want to keep throwing money at it. So once built and run in i sold it. Would not have been able to buy my PP if i had also kept the track car lol
