How To Improve/ruin Your £1000 Rearsets….

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by MattM, Jul 16, 2023.

  1. The V4S that I purchased a few weeks ago is pretty much standard, but does have a set of the CNC Racing Pramac limited edition rearsets. Normally I’d be happy with this, seeing as they are the best part of £1k to buy new

But…they are anodised red and I can’t stand anodised coloured bits on my bikes. I know it’s totally subjective and loads of people have various coloured trinkets and I have no problem with that. But it’s just not my thing.

If they were black or silver I’d be happy as Larry, so that got me thinking about changing their colour. A bit of Googling and YouTub’ing and the decision was made to try and remove the anodising.

A trip to Tesco to buy a £3.50 bottle of oven pride and an afternoon’s elbow grease and this is the end result. Not perfect, but so much better than before!

That Oven Pride is some seriously strong stuff!

  11. IMO a much better look. However you may find that unless you polish them regularly, they may start to oxidise.
Anodising protects from this, and can be done in any colour, including clear.
If oxidation is an issue, you may want to consider getting them clear anodised. Which would be a fraction of the cost of new rearsets.

  12. Yep, that's a good shout.

  13. They have turned out well. I had some red anodised foot pegs that I stripped with caustic soda (takes seconds) and I just sealed them with Acf 50 afterwards and they have beeen fine, no furring up or corrosion at all.

  14. Nice. I want to do a little more polishing first, but once I'm done I'll get some ACF50 sprayed on :upyeah:

  15. Looks 100% better, I’ve finally finished stripping mine of the gold anodised parts….

As has been said, corrosion may pose an issue but there are plenty of company’s out there who will re-anodise the aluminium

  16. On plain ally, I use household soda and boiling water to anodise, leave until water cools and then wash off with warm water and an old toothbrush... works for me... :)

  19. Someone paid £1000 for CNC rearsets which are only marginally better than Rizoma. Andy

  20. Interested in this. What ratio do you use of soda (would that be soda crystals?) to water?

    Thanks
