Cars .. :(

  1. Ive never owned a VW so I cant say much about them. But German build is reliable, but expensive to maintain.
Im a Saab fan and on my 5th one when my Xtype diesel estate wasnt as good as i though it would be I sold it on for my latest Saab 93 Sportwagon. Very reliable, ive had petrol and diesels.
Plenty of cheap ones about, Id go for another 93 Classic diesel, the one with the hatchback. Cheap parts, loads of support forums etc........

  2. Aren't Saabs Vauxhalls under the skin, in the same way that Volvos are Fords ??

  3. John V - No, they wouldn't make them into Vauxhalls, which is basically why GM pulled the plug on them, and now they don't exist anymore...

  4. And Volvos aren't Fords - the new Mondeo is a Volvo - Ford nicked all their recent designs from companies they have bought into. Cheaper than coming up with their own ideas...

  5. But, back at the OP - Can't go far wrong with a Golf Mel... good choice...

  6. That looks superb for a grand, I've owned a total of 16 Golfs over the years, 2 Mk 4's, a V6 4 motion and a 1.8T GTi, both very good (albeit boring) companions.

I like the Metallic green plus it has the desirable upgraded 17" wheels, if you don't do a big mileage I wouldn't get too hung up about the fuel consumption, depreciation is the biggest cost of motoring and that car won't lose much more money.

  7. johnv, you just trying to get a rise out of me.

Saab is a Saab with some GM running train parts and a Fiat engine, same as in the Alfa Romeos.
Like every car has a Bosch Air Mass meter or fuel injection pump, but dont make it a German car.
Its all car Manufacturers sharing the R+D to build cheaper but proven reliability into cars.
I just like Saabs cos they are different, no, Im just an old skool Abba fan

And yes, OP, Golfs are one of the best cars ever:upyeah:

  8. That's great to know !! It's built like a little tank!

  9. Dam ..... Yeah you know the dogging is such an important part if my life .
I figured the green would camouflage me as well :)

  10. Brought the little Golf best of what I looked at ...
Never seen the attraction of Golfs or Polos .. But then again the only cars that interested me where old VW Beetles ( loved my 72 bug !!)

So far had a few men give me thumbs up at the lights .. ????
    A few excited friends ???
My youngest lad loves it mainly I think as it has mod cons and lights up inside like its Xmas .

Have to say it is the smoothest car ever driven .
It's quick and you have to watch your self as I found out down A12 today ( need to sort cruise control).
It also sounds nice has a nice little growl to it :)
I don't use cars much if it wasn't for my lads I'd just own a bike . ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376355107.482267.jpg

I do like its ambient lighting :)

I really wanted a PT Cruiser have done for years went to buy one from a local garage and it had I thought sold !!
So I had to look at other cars

When I stood next to the PT it dwarfed me !!! I'm only 5ft .1 They are pretty big cars.
The other issue I have I'm residents parking :( it's hell so a big car would be impossible ).

    I wanted a 5 door as well.
But I'm actually liking the little car as its got all mod cons , aircon and makes a cracking noise :)
But il have to watch speed!

  13. They're actually about the same size as a mk2 Focus but the high sides that makes them look bulkier. You've dodged a bullet there by getting the Golf though, it's not a good car.

  14. It was the best I could find ...
The rest where stoved in smashed up nothing working :(
    It was depressing!!!
I've been on the look out for ages
Golf was not no my list but he had full service History 2 owners ( mind you could be 2 boy racer owners)
Spares second hand cheap as ... Um me !!! :)
    It drives lovely ..
    And it's small .
I'm not a small lass but in short and sitting in a lot of cars I feel tiny and I'm peeking over the dash board like Mr Magoo :)

I find with bikes and cars I have to have a feeling for them ...
Even if its a bit beaten up I have a vibe going on .'
Every car I say in I did not get the vibe .
    I know barking female thing.

Yes I am bricking it if it hours wrong .
My friend looked into the car and it said been repaired this year :(
But when she checked further it was just a bulb !

    Time will tell .
It will hold its money for a couple of years.
I must really commute by bike !

  15. Sorry typing in phone Doh !!! It changes words grr

  16. Part prices. Ouch.

  17. V5 is great car. No cam belt. Generally bullet proof. Coil packs can fail usually misfire and EML light on but simple to replace and relatively cheap even OEM parts. Nice Santa Monica alloys too. Rare:))

  18. I think you misunderstand me...the Golf is fine. It was the PT Cruiser that you had a lucky escape from!

  19. Oh sorry ... I really wanted a PT I loved my Dads one
A friend if mine has one and he's pretty good mechanically even he's given up on his PT says it is hell to work on and a pain in the backside.
they are big and in my crappy road hell to park :)

  20. PT has terrible build quality - and not good dealer support either... VW good safe bet - people say "parts are expensive", but to be honest no they're not, and if it's reliable ( like VW's tend to be ) you don't buy any parts anyway, so doesn't matter...
