749 Help - 749r Parts Needed...

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by GrizzlyHippo, Jul 21, 2023.

  1. Hi all,

My 749R race bike needs an engine refresh and I need to get a new crank and conrods. These are unique to the 749R model only.

Does anyone have spares they would sell, or know of anyone I can contact? Any race teams got 749R parts tucked away in the corner somewhere??

    Thanks,
    Tom

  2. Oooh, good luck finding those!
Sorry, can't help apart from suggest asking JHP or Louigi Moto?

  3. Thanks Ricky... the bike is in pieces at Louigi now!

  4. What needs “refreshing” ? Pretty significant if you need rods as well as crank?

Good to hear of somebody else with a baby R track bike - got any pics?

  5. It’s an R with the Supersport RS kit heads and cams. Beautiful. We built the engine 10 years ago and it has had a (good) hard life. We had some gearbox problems so had to split the engine and Rich found that the pistons had been hitting (kissing) the heads. Due to the high revving nature of the engine basically some play had developed and the conrods and crank are slightly misshaped (ovaled) and so were just touching the heads, hence we need new parts.

Attached are a couple of photos from Mugello last August.

    Cheers,
    Tom

  6. Defo not possible to regrind the crank?

  7. Ideally no, especially knowing how we use this bike. But it is an option if we can’t pick up some low mileage or new old parts. I have a lead on some parts from a contact in Italy, so just waiting to hear back from them… but if anyone here can help, please let me know!

  8. Lovely!
I have similar spec bike (749R Kit heads/cams/inlets/pipes etc) but mine’s slightly less shiny than yours!

  9. That’s a beauty in a very novel paint scheme.
    What lap times @ Mugello?

  10. Let’s be frank Richard. That makes yours look a right shitter. I will take it off your hands for £4K and a bag of wotsits.

  11. There’s nowt wrong with a satin black stealth paintjob!
    Underneath, she’s rigorously cosseted!
Beauty is more than skin deep…

  12. There was a chap who was on this forum who had a 749R and a spare engine.
He’s now on another Ducati forum.
Perhaps he may be willing to part with the motor if he still has it?

  13. Really like that colour scheme - classy

  14. @GrizzlyHippo Interested to know where you got that number board- is it a cover over the light cutouts or is it a race nose fairing?

  15. Hi Paul, I was down to mid 2’09s on the last day. I was happy with that.

  16. Hi Ricky, it’s a fibreglass race fairing, so no light holes, numbers boards are part of the paintwork. The number signified my birthday which was the first day on track at Mugello last August!

  17. To me that sounds very good, bearing in mind that straight is very long and I imagine your top speed is not 185 mph. Would love to see any video. Sorry for all the question. Just hoping to have my 749 track ready soon.
