Which 1080 onboard camera?

  1. A short clip using a Drift HD mounted on the rear of my friends bike. Big thanks to Andyp79 for helping me upload.

Its nothing spectacular, just a test for myself really to learn how to upload.

  2. I do have to say the GoPro vids do seem better quality than the drift

  3. Yeah, compared to Andys offering the drift does not look as sharp. It is the older drift1080 model and not the ghost though. It is our first outing with it and we had been messing with the zoom and hd settings. I will get some more up when I can to compare.

  4. Hmmm..... if you right click the video whilst its playing, "stats for nerds" appears. Looking at that, Andys resolution is a lot less than whats showing on my clip. Maybe Andy can tell us why and why there is a big difference in quality?

  5. If you then play in 720p and click stats for nerds it shoots up to 1280x720 and it still looks ropey in like for like comparison

  6. Well spotted MR C! I am not very technical lol

  7. I'm on my phone so can't see these menus / stats, but if it helps I recorded mine on 1080p and then saved the movie as 720p and uploaded to YouTube in 720p. I have to record on 1080 if I want to use the medium lens angle, which looks best, as this is one of the limitations of the Silver compared to the Black model.

Not sure what the quality difference will be down to, but I'd think it's lens or hardware related if the resolutions are the same. (?)

  8. Go pro always seems the best. You just have to look at the BSB onboards this ear, even the pro HD set up isnt as good as the GP

    just cumbersome

  9. We originaly recorded in 720p if that makes any difference to the footage on here? We did intend to have it zoomed in but not sure if it was or not. I will keep fiddling with it. I am thinking its a user issue as the youtube reviews and footage are pretty much similar as a rule.

  10. I record all my GoPro stuff in 720. I can never really see the difference between 1080 and 720

  11. Yip, same here. I only record in 1080 as it's the only resolution on my Hero 3 Silver that lets me film in medium angle. I find that Narrow and Wide look weird. Wondering if I'd have been better with a Black Edition but it was a lot more cash, and I was already seeing this as a gadget purchase, not a "proper" one...

720 is all you'll ever need.

  12. pretty pointless going over 1080 anyway.
there are no widespread means of viewing or sharing to view at some of the gopro blacks higher resolutions

  13. And I have learned you need a hd dvd burner or Blu-ray burner if you want to watch your filming back in hd without connecting direct to the camera. I checked the camera settings on the footage we shot above and it appears we had the camera set to low light. I don't know if that would affect the footage though but it was pretty sunny. Playing it back on my pc the footage is a lot clearer than it is on here. I don't know why though.

  14. one word

    online compression

ok ok ok thays 2 words lol

  15. Other beans are available .
My GoPerv 2 batt lasts about 45 mins. or 3 6 lap sessions of Oulton Park. The round tube mount off my crash bars did make the image wobble a bit. Even put some foam tape on before clamping mount but still vibrated some.

  16. funnily enough I just figured out that the resolution really does affect the time. I was getting around 80 minutes of run time with 1080 30FPS.

  17. Interesting and educational thread! But what about the Contour camera?

I am on the verge of buying an action camera for mainly Motorbike and MTB work but maybe a little Kayak/skiing as well.

I have used an older GoPro skiing and found it a bit user unfriendly. The Hero 3 Black is clearly the best for quality but at a price. For what I need the Contour Roam 2 is probably what I will go for but welcome anyone's feedback on this model. At £134 it seems a bargain and is a nice shape to go on the helmet.

It came 2nd (to the Hero 3) in this test: The Best Action Camera Note that the Contour+2 is the same camera with some bells and whistles that I don't really need. The quality of results from the Roam 2 is the same and it can have different settings on different micro sim cards if you want to change when away from a laptop/tablet. I am hoping the results can be viewed on a tablet afterwards.

  18. Don't fuck around just get the GoPro. I fucked around and mistakenly bought a Veho Muvi Gumball edition full HD Blah Blah Blah. It was shit, Ok maybe not shit but at best it was just about acceptable. Luckily I bought it when it was on offer and when I sold it the price had return to its normal price so I did get my money back.
TBH it was more user friendly than the GoPro but that did pale in to insignificance when I had shaky poor quality video

  19. What about going old School?
