You may all recollect I was looking to get a replacement plaque made for the one which was pinched off my 98 916 SPS. Well, I had some made and they are very good and had a small batch done (5) so that I could spread the cost as they were actually quite expensive to reproduce. It became apparent that a few people Were in the same boat as me, but I’ve lost their details. If anyone has one missing from their headstock drop me a line as I will be putting these up for sale soon
Thanks, a lot of work went in to getting them right! I’m not entirely sure, they are brass I know that - but how they have been finished I don’t know I left that to the manufacturer!
As all of these sold within a day, I have had made up another batch of 4. Seems people have bought them in some cases as theirs were stolen, but in other cases to use on the bike for fear of the originals getting stolen too

Cant help thinking this will just help scammers with S model pass off as SPS. Its great that you have sorted yours for your genuine one, but not everyone is genuine
That's why you always have to contact your local dealer or the ducati factory to make sure your NOT buying a non genuine machine
Well if people don’t do their research as to what should be on an SPS bar a headstock plaque then god help them and their cash. I hadn’t thought about people would use them to save their original plaques which is why I made that comment above

The customer service at Borgo ([email protected]) doesn’t deliver any archived information about a bike if you are not the owner already (they ask for ID and proof of ownership). And Ducati dealerships/stores seem to have become useless when it comes to bikes that are past 10 years old, these days… So I tend to agree that selling this type of repops in the wild will mostly arrange scammers. How can 4 of these sell in a day? Four plaque missing 916 SPS owners finding them at the same time seems highly unlikely. Same buyer? Now you start wondering who needs four of those…
Maybe you get the owner / seller to do the confirmation check first or phone a friend that knows these models.

Unfortunately, Borgo take their time to answer. In my personal experience, it took from 2 weeks to two months to get an answer. So even if the seller is willing to help and take all the required pics and send them via email, by the time you get an answer, someone else may have decided to buy it. This is especially true for unmollested SP/SPS/R models, which are sought after. Additionally, there’s a bunch of things that need to be checked internally to properly authenticate a specific model (camshafts, displacement, etc.) So it is difficult to be 100% sure without factory authentication, even if you know what to look for. These « fake » plaques are not a threat to well informed buyers. They are to everyone else. I know one needs to do their homework before buying, but if knowledgeable folks could avoid producing plaque reproductions in batches, that may help limit the scams. I am only sharing a personal opinion here, nothing more. I do not feel threatened at all and find those plaques admirably crafted. Should I need one for my SP3, I’d be all over this. Just wondering about the « batch » production…
If one can't make a plaque if they choose then surely it would be the same with paint. If I chose to paint my bike in Senna colours for example, what wrong with that? By the way, real plaques are made from 800 grade silver and have a hallmark to show that as well as a makers mark. Usually they are situated on the right bottom
