Hi all, I was doing some photo shoots and some fabric melted got caught and melted on my titanium exhaust downpipes. I tried scrapping a bit off and it does come off but takes a long time and a few micro scratches. Does anyone know what to do to avoid scratches? Many Thanks
Like you I've done that, the only way I found was to use a brand new Stanley blade and be very careful. The small marks polished out with some Solvol but that was stainless not Ti.
Get yourself one of those aerosol cans that plumbers use to freeze plpes. A quick spray with that should shift it in one solid lump.
Is the melting it off and using the aerosol method for real? Am i supposed to use a lighter to melt it off?
If you use heat be very careful as titanium will BLUE/GOLD if you use to much on it, i use 600 THEN 1200 grade wet/dry paper with solvol to get any marks off its the best way i found then finish with a soft buff/wheel with solvol in a drill. then soft cloth to finish. brian.
Whatever you do, approach it with caution. If you freeze it, dont run the bike straight away just in case, but if you decide to heat it up, just run the bike and let the engine heat up the fabric. You will need some good fire retardant gloves thou. The only problem is if its burnt and now cooked onto the exhaust, that's a slightly different proposition
just start the bike up untill the pies are hot the remove it with a thick cloth , it not rocket science
Probably find that tackling it early one morning when its much cooler with a very thin bladed knife under the edge, the whole lot will just ping off anyway.
you'll have to be a bit more carefull next time you want to get up close to the exhaust in your thong...
I would have thought an oven cleaner product would shift it. After all it shifts all of the baked on crud in your oven without damaging the metal.
Bright pipes from the US worked wonders on my GT exhaust when I melted my nylon cover to it. Works with heat and a bit of elbow grease but boy does it work. Motorcycle Exhaust Cleaner - Chrome Polish - Hot Pipe Cleaner - BritePipes.com
