Sadly my bike trip has came to an end but a great two weeks, 3595 miles door to door, from N.Ireland via Dublin & Folkstone to France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Holland & Belgium, before returning home via the Snowdonia National Park in Wales to Holyhead and the ferry back to Dublin and then home. Planning has now stated for the next one, France & Italy, to start with. Here's a just a few pics.
Bet your arse is a bit sore mine was 2800 in 10 days only two countries it was a bit pointless with 2000 miles being motorway/ Peage might as well have stayed on the m25
It was the top of the Grossglockner Pass in Austria, the photo was takin on 1st July, unfortunately on the way up and down visibility was as 2 metres, as the majority of it was covered with mist. These photos were taken have way up, but it worth it in the end.
Thanks, the Grossglockner is on my list, but I haven't got there yet!! I recently bought a Transalp and found the co-ordinates on the fairing are for the Col de La Bonnette, which was a new one on me.
Hi there. Just being curios, what's the average cost for that kind of trip?? I want to do France, Spain and back to UK.
It cost me about £2,500, including my return travel, the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and the channel tunnel. The V4S MTS is a thirsty bike, so about £600 of that was on fuel, it was about £800 for hotels including breakfast and the rest was lunch & dinner and off course a few cold ones. I hope this helps.
I also got to ride the Grossglockner this year,aswel as the Stelvio Pass in June....... Out of these two passes,I actually preferred the Grossglockner over the Stelvio...... Even though the Stelvio is 100% free,and the Grossglockner is €30,the ride on the latter was totally more enjoyable. As you could actually get into a rhythm and also look around between hairpins,at the marvellous views etc,and appreciate what is actually around you. Where the Stelvio,is a constant barrage of hairpin after hairpin,and in quick succession,where the views become an afterthought,until you summit... Also due to its success,every bike/car club and cyclist were out for the day...... That said,definitely worth a visit if in that neck of the woods....... And if you are planning on a route home via Switzerland,pop into the Ace Cafe in Luzern.
