URGENT for London commuters - DON'T VENTURE INTO THE CYCLE BOXES AT THE FRONT OF THE LIGHTS. The Police are now imposing £60 fine and 3 points if you do, zero tolerance 2 week campaign just started (One of my colleagues got done this morning). Personally I think this is pretty unreasonable, the least you should do is give people a warning for a few weeks or publicise it more before taking this draconian approach.
is that motorcyclists and obviously cars getting fined. must be to with this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23657010 and the aim to raise awareness and reduce deaths
A bit more info on the law in case you get caught. My chum was on his motorbike and was in the Cycle box whilst the lights were red, interestingly it's NOT and offence if you enter the box and stop whilst the lights are Green or Amber. Good to see the Met making everyone clearly aware of this through leaflets and PAs. FFS. Cyclists are a pain. They never abide by the rules, cycle without care and can cause a accidents.
My tax disc states I'm on a 'bicycle' so I should be fine right? Spose they've got raise the £94bn somehow but at £60 a pop it's gonna take a while
Thats the right answer if it says cycle lane you are allowed in on your motorised bicycle . I got stopped by squad car for travelling in a bus lane that also allowed cycles when I pointed out that the tax disc said bicycle , after a phone call , I was apologised to and allowed on my way.
heres your excuse...........the lights changed as you were part into the box:wink: Is driving into a bike zone actually illegal? | Environment | theguardian.com
hell yeah especially when we are backed up with a huge painted cycle on the road. perhaps they should paint a massive bell-end there for car drivers who encroach half and half in/out

Oh no honestly love cycle mob in this thread?

I know what I will do (I like to waste my time like that):

When (not if) I get stopped I will use the amber/red excuse to cross 1st line
Then bicycle on tack disc excuse (note to self mount tax disc on scoot)
Option 3 is smearing/paperwork campaign. Gopro recording while he deals with me, obviously pointed at lights and I will point out to him every single cyclist entering box not from cycle lane, anyone going over red light or slowly venturing over 2nd line. If he takes action footage does not go to youtube but he has loads of paperwork.
If he refuses footage goes on youtube with his name and id with correct title and discrimination hash rag.

Come on guys its a safety measure. The cycling community have some very powerful friends in power, the current mayor of London being one of them, so this is why this is all being ramped up. Some ideas are great in practice (cycling super highway anyone?), but something has to be done to help separate the traffic at the lights. Somebody here mentioned that, I think it was in Holland, the cyclist get a green light 10secs before the rest of the traffic allowing them to get away safety. Do I wait in the cycle bit, sometimes, but not all the time. Oh and you may be able to argue your case with Joe Bobby, but the TFL appeal system is horrible for a reason
I'd be interested to know what would happen if you pull up in the diagonal (hatched) painted areas in front of a traffic Island, you would be in front (to the side) of the cycle bay, but not actually in it. They were nicking people, car and push bike, last night in Kennington Road. More community officers out this morning with leaflets
When it comes down to it cyclists have more control and ownership of the road than any vehicle. They can go through Red Lights, stop inside the yellow box, ride with no lights and they even have a VIP waiting room at the traffic lights. Absolutely bonkers. Before you start moaning I'm a cyclist and for me I think the Advanced Stop Line (ASL) is a foolish idea, but I can understand the reasons I would much prefer the cyclists to get a 15 seconds head start on a cycling amber light to allow for them to get clear of vehicles should we continue with the ASL. I try to avoid the ASL as it puts you in a vulnerable place IMO
im many spanish cities the box at the front of the light is marked 'MOTOS' far more sensible to have the motorcycles in front of the push bikes (with the cars behind the push bikes) from a safety and traffic flow point of view but then i am very biased
