Hi guys I thought id start a thread to keep track of what goes on the 1098. so far iv stuck a few bits on there but my main aim is to do what I did with my old GSXR and make a budget build bike but something that rivals ones that have £1000's spent on them. for example the k4 i had ended up with

DB Screen

Yoshi Number Boards

Bar ends

Grips

Asv leavers

Brembo 19 x 20 MC

Hel White Lines

Ohlins fork cartridge kit

Flush indies

HID kit

Carbon front hugger

R1 calipers

Wavy discs

samco hoses

K&N air filter

Tectonics Quick shiftier

Power commander

APE cct

dyno jet multi function hub

Yoshi full ti system

smart TRE

Giles rear sets

Giles chain adjusters

Nitron rear shock

HRC break res kit

white under tray

clear rear light

carbon tail tidy

Pre load adjusters

Heat proofed air box

Custom PC3 map

and all of this was got for under £1200  So below is whats done so far completely standard bar the screen and carbon dash cover First things first i love the red but it needed to be broken up a bit so number boards went on next was to get it making some noise rather than sounding a bit like a fart in a bucket compared to majority of Ducati's on the road. They may only be cheap Chinese ones but the build quality is half bad and the sound is amazing Next was the clutch and some carbon heel plates (£10) and a carbon water pump cover thing also £10 thanks to Nelson for the pressure plate Although after fitting the new plate the i could barely pull away as the clutch was just slipping like a mo fo. I made sure the markings were lined up is there any reason this would be happening?
If you got that list for under £1200 either they were fucked, nicked or you are the luckiest man alive...what did you pay for the 1098, £185?! ;-) My slipper needs revs to pull away but sounds a bit excessive. At least its a dry clutch so taking apart ad repacking a quick and easy job
ha ha i think i paid a bit over the average for the 1098 to be honest and with the k4 i sit at a pc for 9 hours a day ebay is the only thing that keeps me sane. oh and forums. With the clutch i can get past about 25mph in 1st gear and if i try and give it more it just red lines. the markings on the plate can it still be a tooth out either side as iv heard the they only work properly in one exact place?
Sounds like worn clutch but dont these things have stack heights which are adjustable and super sensitive? One plate wrong and it foils up
Ar right ok cant see why its problem then. Thought you had replaced with a slipper. Only thing would be take off, put back and torq bolts. Thats the limits of my knowledge...
Something isn't seated correctly. Is the rod in the bearing all the way? Is the bearing in the plate all the way? Is the rod pushed in the slave all the way? Lets go all the way Lets go all the way Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Lets go all the way Hard to see from pic, but yr plate looks high over the stack.
Pressure plate has to line up correctly. There should be a dot or arrow by 1 of the spring pockets that lines up with the spring post with a line on it. Jiggle the pressure plate to get it to locate on the hub before fitting springs and screws, Don't over tighten them, just nip them up, the posts are alloy and can break. If clutch is still slipping, compare o/e pressure plate with new to see if the inner part is machined to the same depth. Aftermarket pressure plates do vary, you might have to increase the plate stack height by swapping 1.5mm plains to 2mm plains to gain a bit of stack height.
you need to take it off again and compare its height or thickness to the original one that was on there. i bet the red one is slimmer hence less pressure on the plates hence a slipping clutch
Did you have the pressure plate off for a length of time? I did mine a long time ago, left it over night and similar happened! Hd to bleed the clutch to get it back to normal
iv put the std plate back on now running 4 springs as iv seen on here its possible to lighten the clutch, this was much needed due to lack of climbing my arms and wrists have become very weak. what iv now found is the clutch is slipping every so often. last night i went out for a blast and pinned it in second and as hit got past half revs started to slip do i need to get some better clutch springs?
Surely by removing the springs you're increasing the chance of it slipping? Ie the rod off the slave disengages the clutch by moving the pack apart, the springs provide resistance to this to stop it doing it under its own load. By removing springs you've reduced its ability to hold properly?
At the end of the day there re 6 spring of a value x if that is 5lbs then there is 30lbs resistance as standard...........take away two springs and you are losing 33% of the pressure down to 20lbs...no wonder it slips.............. A ducati 4 spring slipper would have in this example 4 x 7.5lbs......to get the correct pressure plate value. simples.......
exactly, in theory they'll all have the same weight to them as they need to provide the same amout of force, that being with any number of springs.
Ok fair enough, it does make sense iv got the std plate on there now with 6 springs so all is good. I did manage to get my clutch cover cut at the weekend while i was fannying around with the pressure plate. I know its not 100% and still needs some work with the dremel but when it only cost me a tenner I'm not to fussed if it isn't perfect Also iv had some carbon delivered but I'm guessing the guy butchered them trying to get them off. Are these repairable? or any ideas on how to neaten them up
2000 wet and dry the scratches out of the resin and then autosol back up to shiny. Clutch cover for 10 quid!?! admit it..you did get that bike for 185 quid didn't you!
