Hi Guys My Multi is now just over two months old and I can't stay off of it, it's brilliant. However there is a problem that's really bugging me. The bike has nearly 4k miles on the clock and 2.6k was on the continent - 7 days touring around France, Pyrenees and Spain, and last weekend up at Assen for the motogp. The problem is inadvertent hazard light operation when signalling left. For those not familiar with the hazards on the 2013 Multi, to operate them you have to hold the indicator button to the left for three seconds. What's been happening is that occasionally the hazards come on when signalling left, which is a real pain when overtaking on the continent. I thought it could have been that when signalling left, your thumb may be pressing the multi use/cancel button on the switch which was causing the hazards to come on. However, I started lifting my hand off the grip to make sure I pressed on the RH side of the switch only (to overtake left), but still occasionally the hazards operated. I presumed it was a faulty switch and my dealer (CMW Chichester) replaced it when I returned from Assen. Sadly, there is still a problem. I can stand by my bike, with electrics on, and carefully indicate left, then cancel. About every 10 or 15 times of doing this, the hazard lights would come on. Has anybody else experienced this? I've searched the archives and can't see any mention of it. Cheers Kevin
It has happened about 5-10 times to me, I WD40'd the switch and put it down to my big thumbs! Cant say its a real problem for me but something I am aware of and watch out for now. It does confuse any mates following
It does confuse people following, and in front. It's not so much of a problem in the UK but on the continent it's a right pain. When overtaking you should just be able to indicate and go, but now I have to look down to check that the hazard flashers aren't on which is a distraction. Oh well, maybe it'll heal up How old is your multi?
Having the same problem with mine, it happened a couple of times while touring France and Spain, don't seem to notice in this country as we are overtaking on the right !!
Reading this makes me realise I'm working too many hours and not getting out on my bike as much as I should. Roll on next Wednesday when I go on holiday and will put a couple of thousand miles on the bike in 12 days.
Hmmm . Happened on my new 2013 last weekend ? I thought it was just me being clumsy ? Will watch it now! Thanks for the heads up
So I did a big trip today ( 600km ) of varied motorway , highway and back roads and it happened to me again. !? But I think it was actually me ? I was anticipating a left turn and had my finger " hovering " over the turn switch and on goes the hazards ! I was wearing thick winter gloves and couldn't really feel the pressure . When I was careful from then on - no problems with false hazards . Maybe this is the cause? Cheers Dave
Mine's a June 2013 with 4500 miles on the clock, did 3700 in 11 days touring France and Spain, trouble free apart from an Engine oil top up.
Hi DucDave. I thought it was clumsiness at first but I have been very careful and it still happens. If I stand next to my bike with electrics on, push the slider switch to the left with my right index finger (i.e. being careful not to touch the cancel button, which you may do while riding with gloves) the left indicator lights will come on. If I do this several times (indicate, cancel, indicate, cancel.......) every so often the hazard lights will come on. Try it. Hi Spanner Rash. I picked my Multi up in May and it's done just under 4000 miles, 2600 touring on the continent. So far the oil level hasn't moved from the full mark and still has a slight green tint to it. What oil do you use? Cheers Kevin
Anyone know if this is available as a mod or upgrade on the 2010-2012 model. I don't want to miss out on any possible problems
Hi Kevpix, I use the Shell advance ultra 4 as recommended by Ducati, My old 2010 model didn't use a drop of oil between services, so I shall be keeping a close eye on it.
Sorry Kev - That makes no sense - should read - - I can't get it to do it on mine ? I do have clumsy fingers after all ! Dave
Hi, just got my new MTS a couple of weeks ago and noticed the hazards problem, like you thought it was finger trouble to start with but soon realised the error is real. So checked out the forum to see if I was an isolated case...obviously not. Weather permitting I'll be going up to Bridgwater to get my 600ml service done on Friday. I've already emailed Rider's in the hope that they will be able to sort it then, don't want to make a habit of the 300ml round trip from deepest Cornwall! Obviously they're dependant on support from Ducati, I see this as a potential safety issue / hazard (pun), so they ought to have it fixed by now. I'll let you know if I have any joy.
I had the switch replaced a couple of thousand miles ago, but it still occasionally turns on the hazards. It's either a switch design or software fault. I hope it gets fixed soon, I've just returned from my third continental trip on the multi and the switch is a right pain! I agree that it's a safety issue. Kevin
Hi Kevin, I've tried testing this out static in the garage and it seems that the error comes after every 15th time of using the left indicator, so I'm sceptical that it is the switch mechanics, I think it is a software issue. But then I'm a mechanical design engineer and always try to blame it on the software guys . If I'm right it means that frequency of experiencing the error is dependant on how many left turns you do on any uninterrupted ride (switching off will restart the count). You'd think the guys in Italy (with left hand overtakes) would see it more than us, but may be they don't bother indicating . Hopefully I'll know more on Friday....but not holding my breath. Colin
