Oil Pump Cover Gear Scratches - Skim Ok?

  1. I have some round gear markings on the oil pump cover. I wondered if on these pumps (a 1992 900ss), it's a good idea for pump operation, to skim the cover to remove those marks without causing any problems?

  2. I guess that's an option. I have a few pumps somewhere, should you need parts for a small cost. I can't see any issues with skimming the cover though, but where's the pressure release valve? The early ones had them in the cases, the later in the oil pump

  3. CHeers Desmo, yes its the one with the release vlave in the cases. I reckon it'll be OK.
I found the gear to gear gap was on the large side too, at 0.16 mm. I ordered a low mileage pump forom durhamducs... Good to know you have some spares around though - might need a gear or two. I'll be in touch
