  1. Not to sidetrack the OPs thread any further (apologies for that), but I only wish there had existed a "996R" branded premium cover. But in 2001 there was just the cheap dust cover that came in the bag with the manuals included with the 996R (or over the bike for those shipped in crates), and then there was only the premium one you could order from the 2001 Accessories catalogue.

@bettes - Are you saying that a company named Castlefranco in fact did produce a premium cover that did have the 996R-specific branding that was officially licensed? Because it's not in the 2001 accessories catalogue and I don't see it in the 2002 either. Or were you just saying the 999R covers were made by Castlefranco and you wish they had made a 996R one too? The tag on the 999R one says Coprimoto which is also who made the premium cover I have as well, although as mentioned not branded for a specific model in 2001.

For my 996R I have both below brand-new still in their original bags, never unfurled. The premium one is still in its original box.

  2. Any snags or rips or holes at the bottom where it cinches up with the rubber band?

Any black oil, grease or tire marks inside?

    has it ever been washed?

    Alex,
« Castelfranco Emilia » is the name of a small Italian town close to Modena, may be 20 miles west of Bologna, not far at all from « Borgo Panigale », the suburban town were the Ducati factory is located. 5324A47B-62A3-408F-80AD-4FC6F8E33B28.jpeg

At some point, a small company seems to have been manufacturing premium indoor covers (satin stretch custom fit type of thing) for some Ducati models. I personally own one for my 916, branded « Elle S. Covering » (see pic in my previous post). It has specific 916 labels and a part number reference on the bag. Even though it does not have the pockets for the mirrors, the seams are following the Tamburini lines perfectly, both front and rear. It is not cheap and/or generic. 40C6E516-E84E-493F-BA87-62272CC06D5A.jpeg 0229DE4F-1DC2-44A3-9BF7-40BD516D00FA.jpeg ADE5030B-CF90-4638-9C5A-0EEC902EA405.jpeg

@bettes seems to remember that his 999R premium cover came from the same location. Was it the same manufacturer? OP @aviating cud could tell us what the label on his cover says.

No idea if something equivalent was made for 996R models, though.

  4. No, I don’t think they produced a 996R printed cover.

  5. Has it ever been washed….dude

  6. Correct mate!

  7. It’s never been washed or ironed. There are absolutely no snags, holes or any other damage. There is one slight mark on the outside. Otherwise it is in as new condition

  8. No it hasn’t. Other than one small chain oil mark it is perfect. No holes, snags etc.

  9. Was he talking about his underwear or something ?

I’ve got a genuine 999R, the fitted type cover, that I use on my 749.

A mouse moved into my bike for the winter a few years ago and bloody chewed two holes in the cover at some point :sob: It’s been patched with some red felt squares. I was going to throw it away at the time. I had no idea they were worth that much, obviously mine isn’t now. I also have the original bag.

  12. @Shaun strange request, would you sell the bag?

  13. Er never thought about selling it. I guess my chewed cover might be worth more with a bag?
With a mint cover at £250 my mint bag has to be worth somewhere near £100
    :joy:

  14. @Shaun

Yours doesn’t say 999 « R », though, unlike the OPs. So your mint bag is only worth £50…:D

More seriously, it’s interesting to notice that « premium » (good quality) covers were also manufactured for standard 999.

  15. So it doesn’t! good spot, I’d never noticed the missing R

  16. can you PM me about this?
