I know we say it every weekend but where would this championship be without Toppers? Lead cut to 54 points and likely to cut into that a bit more tmrw especially with Alvaro seemingly struggling to get the power down. Seems there are tracks out there that suit the fatties lol. Looking forward to tmrw already.
It's the change in tyre, too hard for Alvaro. Bad decision to go with full wets. Inters was the right decision. Andy
I can take a mistake but don't appreciate Tossland laughing out loud at the bad fortune of Ducati. Most un sporting. Shakey however is fairly non judgemental and puts things down to simple bad tyre choice.
I do find it a bit strange they change what’s effectively the rules 2/3 of the way through the season. Toseland is basically just a tik tok grifter.
It’s difficult when the track is known to be abrasive and Dorna and the FIM don’t want another debacle like Phillip Island. On balance I accept and agree the need to manage some of the risk associated with racing but it affects different riders and bikes differently. Alvaro is a past master at making a soft tyre last. Take the soft option away and he loses that advantage and is no longer all conquering. JR (and team) made the correct decision and deserved the result …. however much that sticks in my throat Andy
What a battle between those two lads in race 2, it's a shame it finished like that but that's racing for you.
That 2nd super sport race was absolutely epic so glad for taz (and wee McPhee). Nice little addy for Clive padgetts handywork too lol (as if he needed one). Gutted about Toprak but it had to happen eventually. Still not over though.
Was that the ‘new’ Pirelli ? Be interesting to see how many of the crashes get attributed to the tyre choice. Andy
No idea but lets hope its a one off and not the new norm! Heres what Toprak had to say; “I just try to do my best, very bad luck for me. I’m not angry for Pirelli – I don’t know why this tyre is like this, I am just very surprised and it is very strange. We have many races, and I keep looking to the future and keep fighting.” “It was a very strange race. My rear tyre burst. I am surprised because I looked back after the crash at the chain, and after I saw my tyre. It’s very strange for me, it’s the first time it’s happened in my life. I am okay. In the last six laps, I started to ride calmer, and I saw the gap getting bigger. It was a good race for me and I enjoyed it; I think all fans enjoyed it!”
“started to ride calmer” yeh, right Are the race tyres still hand built ? That could explain the odd variability. I’m sure Pirelli will be all over the tyre to try and find out what happened. Andy
What a calm and collected response - he got chucked over the bars by the tyre letting go and lost the race and 25 points and he’s still acknowledging the fans and their enjoyment. Fantastic.
