695 Arrived

  1. These turned up today, very good quality and well finished....

No problems fitting them except a small self inflicted issue with the rear fixings. Having fitted the new slip ons, I have restricted access to the 5mm button head screws. After a bit of faffing I got them out and replaced with hex head screws. Much easier to get a 8mm spanner on them than a 3mm allen key...

Next job will probably be new chain and sprockets.
The recent cleanup has revealed that the chain is quite worn, although the sprockets are good.
I am thinking of going for a 14t front and 43t rear kit, which is -1 and +1 from standard.

  2. Picked this one up off ebay.
A bit of polish and it's come up very well. A few minor scratches but that means it fits in with rest of the bike:D

  3. Had a delivery this morning:)
I had been thinking of buying some sort of bike lift now that I have room in the garage after selling the classic mini. After a lot of research I decided on one of these. I was looking at Machine Mart but found it cheaper at SiteBox and free delivery.
It was a bit of an adventure getting it off the delivery truck. They had side loaded it with a fork lift, but the old guy said it was too wide to go out the back of the truck via the loading platform. After a bit of faffing and lifting we managed to get it safely onto the floor outside my garage.
Half an hour setting up and it's ready for use.....
20210111_191129.jpg I had been holding back doing the oil change until I got the lift and I am so glad I did!
There is no way I would have removed the old filter whilst lying on the floor. I had to resort to the big screwdriver method. The bloody thing put up a fight, I really had to put some effort in to get it to move...

  4. Very nice! Good to see another 695 getting some attention. I bought one a couple years ago and I have to say its become a favorite. Like you said, riding it isn't an event like I sometimes treat the other bikes. I feel I can jump on it and go, like I did when I first started riding bikes in the 70's. Light, low, sounds as good as any other Ducati (except for no dry cluctch jangling), and looks like a proper Monster. I replaced the stock cans with some Danmoto cans (fairly cheap) and then flashed the ECU to fatten up the low and mid while eliminating the immobilizer (no red key came with the bike). i bought it filthy and worn for cheap then freshened up the running gear, brakes, forks, and corroded parts. Very happy with the little Monster.

  5. Lovely bike that!
I've fitted one of these and removed the O2 sensor....

I haven't had a chance to get out and test it yet due to weather etc. but first signs are good.
It starts up and will idle smoothly if I hold the revs about 2k.
Before this it would cycle between lean and 'not so lean' and the revs would rise and fall.

  6. Hey Sando,

You may already have all this info, but thought I'd mention what I did to try to smooth out the lean mixture that made lower RPM driving less fun. With just the Danmoto slip ons and no other changes, the bike didn't run as smooth as stock between 3K and 5K, with a little stuttering and hesitation at steady throttle and some exhaust popping on deceleration. It still ran well under acceleration and high RPMs. This bike is used for general slow speed city poking so I'd really like it to be smooth in that low speed, steady state condition.

I'd read about Lonelec cables, GuzziDiag, IAWReader, IAWWriter, and TunerPro. I tried to use GuzziDiag to adjust the CO Trim, which did not require an ECU reflash. I adjusted CO Trim until I stopped the decel popping. But that took a +20 setting, which is WAY WRONG and the wrong way to fix the problem.

So, I bought the Lonelec cables and did some more research and experimentation with TunerPro (XDF and BIN files). I first downloaded and safed the stock ECU bin file. Then tested the IAWWriter reflash function on using the stock BIN file with the immobilizer turned off in TuneECU. That worked and I could still start the bike with the original (black) key.

I couldn't find an M695 specific DP BIN file, but found the fuel maps (including a before and after). The before version was identical to my stock map so I made the changes from the DP map and saved as a new BIN in TunerPro. I also turned off the immobilizer and the Lambda sensors. I uploaded the map, reset the CO trim to stock, and reset the TPS a few times.

It was late night when I first tested the bike with the new flash. It ran beautifully. Strong pull from low RPM. No decel popping from any RPM on closed throttle. Strong roll on acceleration from multiple RPMs. And best of all, smooth low and mid RPM steady throttle / cruise performance. I have run with this tune for the last year and it has been excellent. And no overly rich exhaust smell. Using a dyno with CO monitors would be the best way to assure the right tune. But for the price of some cables and worst case being an overly rich condition, it solved all the problems I wanted to solve.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. Was too nice a day to miss a chance to go out for a blast.
The Smart Moto O2 eliminator works brilliant. All the low rev surging has gone and the bike runs great. Not a bad solution for just over 30 quid:)

  8. Got around to fitting new chain and sprockets today.
I went for a DID VX3 and JT sprocket set, 1 tooth down front and 1 up rear. Should make it a bit more lively off the mark:D
That's about it now. Ready to put some miles on it this summer:)

  9. So it turns out the Smart Moto O2 eliminator was not that good after all.
Still a bit of a misfire at low revs and it kept putting the EML light on.
I decided to bite the bullet and get the ECU re-mapped. Thanks to @chrisw for a great re-flashing service.
ECU re-installed, quick TPS reset, just got back from a test ride....lovely:yum

  10. 20230724_211144.jpg 20230724_211031.jpg 20230724_182547.jpg Changed my mind on selling this great bike and decided to treat it to some new Termis.
I've been waiting for some of these to come up for ages, picked them up today from Wigan. They have not been used so virtually new and came with DP air filter/open airbox and brand new ECU (although this has DP map for 620ie on it).

Does anyone know how to get the db killers out? Removed the fixing screw but they are refusing to move.

  11. Looks much better with low mount exhausts on in my opinion. I'd assume that you use those pins in the tube with some pliers perhaps?

  12. Yes, I realised that I also preferred the low mount exhausts.
Couldn't move the baffles with pliers. I finished up making a small slide hammer out of a bit of long 8mm bolt and a large socket. A couple of taps and they were out.

  13. So, here's the reason the 695 nearly got sold....a 2001 S4 which was rebuilt and restored by a well known Ducati specialist from Rothwell. In the end I decided I didn't really need to sell the 695. Just thought I would share a few pics...
