Garmin Xt2

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by BabyD, Aug 5, 2023.

  1. Has any purchased this yet?
was it worth the change from the XT? £550

  2. Didn't even know there was an XT2. Doubt I'll be changing as the original XT does more than I use anyway. Andy

  3. I did not make the move, from what I could see same hardware (0.5" bigger screen) but a load of app based routing options that were taken off the XT from the 590?

  4. Does it use the same mount as the XT?

  5. From the Bennetts BikeSocial review : "The new Garmin Zumo XT2 will fit the old Zumo XT cradle, ands accept 5V power from it, but the original XT will not fit the new XT2 cradle due to some small ridges on the new bracket. These are necessary as the new device takes a 12V feed, whereas the old one had a voltage regulator in the cable."

The Zumo XT2 doesn't look like a major upgrade over the Zumo XT unless you and your mates actively use the new Group Rides feature:

A huge benefit to the new Garmin Zumo XT2 and its compatibility with the Tread app is ‘Group Rides’, which show the location on your map of someone who’s also got an XT2 or one of the car/ATV-focussed Garmin Tread GPS range. You can now easily keep track of others in your group, or find someone you’ve lost.

But it also works with someone who simply has the app on their phone. It’s very quick and easy to create a group ride on the phone app of the XT2 itself, then all other riders can join by entering the six-digit code that’s generated, or by scanning the QR code if they’re at the same location.

This is incredibly slick, with the other rider’s names shown on the sidebar (which can be closed), their distance away and their direction of travel. The names have a coloured bar next to them that matches an arrow on the map, which switches to a dot when the rider stops moving.

It's worth noting that the XT2 doesn't come with the automotive "suction cup" mount and cigarette light power supply, which is sold separately for £35! The Zumo XT includes this accessory in the box.

Also from the Bennetts review, says that
"The Garmin Zumo XT2 includes street and topographic maps with 3D terrain covering Europe and the Middle East, while Africa (including Tracks4Africa), North and South America, Australia and New Zealand can all be downloaded for free from Garmin.com/express. Free map updates are included."

I've not yet been able to confirm on the Garmin website but this might be useful if you were planning to use your sat nav outside of Europe. I'm planning a fly / drive (not fly / ride unfortunately) holiday to the Canadian Maritime provinces next year so was going to purchase the North American maps so I can use my Zumo XT with all the routes, hotels and points of interest programmed in advance. Given the cost of the North American map for the XT are £100 then it might be worthwhile changing to the XT2 as it effectively knocks £100 off and it's worth noting that purchased maps are locked to a specific device and can't be transferred.

  6. Gawd damn I hate the zumo595 in bright sunlight. It's so hard to see the information, where as all the other garmins I've owned have a high brightness setting to overpower the sun. I'd be double check its ability in direct sunlight from reviews & potentially a shop in person.
