Wsb Now The Premier Race Series ?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Paddy Barratt, Aug 7, 2023.

  1. Like you I've been watching motorcycle racing for years and have always enjoyed the battles especially when it goes right to wire to who takes the championship, and that's how it is now, only with a new breed. People complain when a particular manufacturer is on top, unless of course they're a fan of that manufacture or team or rider. Both Honda & Yamaha have their time dominating races, but now that the European manufactures made fantastic progress, it seems to be an issue with some people. At the end of the day it's each to their own, personally I think MotoGP is better now than it ever was, because there are so many talented riders that are winning races so really cares what bikes they're on. If Honda & Yamaha were to pull out, those teams with simple go to any one of European manufactures and MotoGP will continue as the premier class racing series it is and has been.

  2. Yes but without the backing of the major manufacturers is it still the premier series ? We all like good racing and you do sometimes get that with GP but thats not the point...you have to admit its becoming more and more irrelevant to the average rider and his bike. I suspect it will go the way of F1 where Aston Martin sponsor the car and Mercedes actually power it until next year when it becomes a Honda :). How long before we see a generic V4 powering a Honda or Yamaha ?

  3. You mention good racing, it doesn't matter if it's MotoGP or WSB there will alway be people who will have a good winge. Isn't there a lot of whining about Bautista winning all the races? And regarding a generic engine, so what, there's generic Triumph engines in Moto2 and this where the skill and experience of the rider that make the difference, so if MotoGP was to run a generic engine it would make even more competitive. And as I mentioned early, MotoGP is not about the average rider on the standard bike, it's about the performance of a thoroughbred race bike. But that said, aren't all the manufacturers now mimicking MotoGP bikes with all the wings and aero packages? And let's face it, do we really need MotoGP inspired aero packages on a bike that the majority of riders will never reach the speeds to benefit from them?

  4. "so if MotoGP was to run a generic engine it would make even more competitive."

Maybe thats the way forward then ? Either way i will keep watching both :)

  5. So bored with Moto GP. Ducati cup. It’s like the other manufacturers can’t be bothered. No characters. Ive got no interest who wins and the random winners means there’s no real narrative. Need something like Marquez back dominating and everyone chasing him.
I’m not against progress but the wings etc are not my cup of tea. Stoner and doohan made good points about putting it back in the hands of the racers. More like BSB.

  6. You want WSB or even better f1 then lol. Alvaro and max are walking away with their respective championships.
(I couldnt think of anything worse personally)
Oh and aprilla won the british gp so not quite the ducati cup just yet :)
100% agree though re the wings, theyre hideous and look even worse on a road bike.

  7. I think a lot of race fans dont like the fact that Bezz and Pecco (and the VR46 camp) are best mates.
Its perceived theres no "edge" between them and "no characters".
    Just my 10c worth.

  9. Slightly off topic but i used to watch GP and WSB using BT sport and Eurosport. Then BT sport dropped Eurosport for a while and i was going to cancel BT sport as didnt want to pay for just one championship ie GP.
Then BT reinstated Eurosport so i had both again if i changed my package and committed to a 24 month contract...which i did. Shortly after they moved WSB again to Discovery+ and of course i cant get that because my TV is more than 7 years old so will not accept the needed app. and of course i am now locked in and they want £2000 for me to buy out and scrap the lot..or buy a new TV when the old one is perfect and gets all other apps like netflix etc. just not discovery+
Basically I'm locked in for 24 months and they moved the one thing i wanted to watch to another platform.

  10. I dont think people care ? you could put robots on these things and if the racing was good then fine. People get fed up with MM falling off 5 times a weekend and 3/4 of the field basically just making up the numbers. Like F1, no one cares about Hamilton and all his hang ups and "poor me" nonsense, they just want to see a good race.

  11. Was responding to this and not the first time ive hear it, or read it on here...

  13. It's all on TNT Sports, the new name for BT Sport and Eurosport. I still have access to both through BT and Discovery+. My girlfriend had BT Sport through Sky which is now branded as TNT Sports. Seems odd to me. Andy

  14. Do you pay for BT through Virgin Media?
If so, i am in the same position and it doesnt look like it will improve anytime soon.

  15. I get BT sport, now called TNT sport direct from BT however the last WSB but one, they put the warm ups and qualifying on TNT and the actual races on Discovery+ which i cant get

  16. Lol i get the opposite i dont get the warm ups but i get the races. Suppose i should count myself lucky.
Virgin have also told me i cant get D+ via their service, hence why i asked..

  17. You should have received an email from BT several months ago that gave you free sign up to the Discovery+ app. I put the app on my iPad and mirror the iPad on my TV. It should also work on any mobile/lap top format. Andy

Personally I love the aero on the gp bikes. Aero has been present since the 1930’s in top flight bike racing when Moto Guzzi built a wind tunnel. It’s grown into something that the engineers can get their teeth into. Remember how dull 500’s were when development stagnated, now we have pretty much the top 15 bikes within a second on the time sheets each week.
