Dodgy Cover Versions

  1. It is said that to copy is the greatest form of flattery, personally I hate my favorite tunes being destroyed by pretenders, haveing said that, it can work for instance I've never heard a Beatles tune that hasn't been done better by somebody else

This made me cringe this morning

  2. one of my favs

  3. The worst offenders are the Rap / Crap artists in my opinion, the list is very long and boring.!

  4. Most rap tunes. They rip off artists such as Curtis Mayfield. An artist who, wrote, sang and played all the instruments. A properly talented man. Hugely talented and influential. Yet they rip his stuff off and profit with their mediocrity and take some of his glory. Shameful cunts.

  5. Why did it make you cringe?

Musically it's OK and TBF the singer did alright with it too, especially as far as the fans there and in the moment were concerned?

  9. examples?

bearing in mind if people sample another artist then they have to pay for it, so its not a 'rip-off' nor shameful

if you mean 'touch the sky' (by kanye, sampled move on up) then he will have definitely paid a sampling fee, so Curtis Mayfield's estate would benefit. Like him or not, Kanye is one of the most talented producers, ghost writers, beat-makers and rappers ever.

  10. Totally agree with Bootsam - there are many examples of singers "unique sound files" being sampled and used without fairly accrediting the original artist in either publicly listing or monetary terms.
That artists learnt subsequently that this had happened, followed by possibly lawsuits is only correct and right, and owners of voices and lyrics shouldn't have had to resort to this in the first place.

  11. I'm aware that some samples get 'stolen' and that's not on, paying for samples is another thing, and using them doesn't automatically make you a talentless c*nt. Curtis Mayfield sampled 'We're a winner' by the impressions on 'move on up'

totally disregarding whole generations/genres as "shite" is very narrow minded though isn't it.. It's such a boomer thing to do "ooh, the kids these days with that hippety hop rap rubbish... back in my day" etc etc

  12. Not sure who the 'artist' is, but someone is sampling Right On For The Darkness and its utter shite. As for your Kanye, well I think hes complete wank narcissist without substance. But you can like who you want. He hasnt an ounce of Curtis's talent and countless others who are sampled. Thats just my opinion.

  13. A poor cover version of a favourite song is a horrible thing, on the flip side I enjoy a good cover album. Two personal favourites being-
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Kicking Against The Pricks
Brian Ferry - These Foolish Things.

  14. Dont get me wrong, some real good rap out there. With samples that do not detract from the original and that are used in such a way as to be further creative. It is the ones who use it to enhance themselves that I object to. Ones who steal the tune and claim it as their own work. That pisses me off. For example MIA, she managed to use a Clash sample in a new an interesting way. Its a fine line I guess, but that Right On For The Darkness one....grrr...lol...

Kanye? pmsl, what an utter twerp

  16. can be really tough for a comedian on here Paul, so diverse is what makes "us" laugh. Keep trying, you are bound to get some hits, hell, i'll give you one myself.

  17. I admit Brad to the temptation to call it an underpowered copy of my 1299. But tbh, my 1299 is overpowered for me anyways. I quite like the v2's. They're still slim, not like the fat bulbous v4. I appreciate the lithe skinniness of the 7**/9** bikes.

  18. Rap, has NEVER been music, what a load of sh*te, if I'm going to listen to something black, it'll be Black Sabbath, if it's not rock & roll then it's just not music

  19. All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix - well dodgy.
