In respect to the M1000XR the shift cam engine is an absolute peach. I'm currently on a Gen 4 S1000RR with the same engine and its fantastic. It has torque and power everywhere. I completely understand why they would put that engine in an XR. The wings however, I'd agree they are pointless. Is the V4R a thing of myth or something Ducati are looking at and what would it entail?
I learned today that the concept of a Multistrada R has certainly been a topic of discussion in Ducati world. How far that discussion has gone and how far it could go, is the $1,000,000 question. IMO, the Multistrada V4 engine isn’t capable of delivering 40 or more horse power without a significant change and I’m not sure the Panigale V4 engine is a plug and play fit in a Multistrada Pikes Peak. I’m also not sure the Pikes Peak chassis could take 40hp more. The bottom line for me, is any bike would have to be rideable day in and day out, not for just an hour or so and it would have to be able to get between French petrol stations before going onto reserve. If you have to start loading the bike up to cope with the extra power, rather defeats the object for me. Andy
I'd be surprised if it happens, but crazier things have happened in the past. My question is how will they price it? The Pikes Peak is already around £4k more than the M1000XR is rumoured to be, so what'll it be? £8k more? £10k more? They'll really be limiting their audience if that's the case, but that's never stopped sales of ultra expensive bikes for them. My Pikes Peak with the full system is running around 180bhp, which is more than enough, so the question is, do Ducati play the game and chase the BHP figures, or just let BMW get one over on them this time??
Get caught doing 50 km/ph over the limit between French fuel stations now and you are looking at a €3750 fine, bike impounded and three months in prison. The laws changed in July. More power is just willy waving for small boys.
Not sure that’s entirely true. The set up is different on a PP but the power is the same as the S model.
Hi GC6269 here, proud owner of a microscopic willy. Enough to fill two prams though. Reverse masculine insecurity notwithstanding, MTS V4R could be carbon wheels, twin outlet Termi system and a couple of other bits. Ducati could charge a premium of 6-8k for it and do you know what? It will sell, 100%. And what’s more, my BHS nylon y-fronts might just look packed if I were to purchase such a steed. P.S. I’ve never ridden in France, they were no use in WW2 and I refuse to give those charlatans a penny of my hard earned lucre.
Must say I had a test ride of the standard 1000XR with some extra goodies and I was really surprised, that engine is amazing. Will be bonkers with shift cam tech. The power was so effortless and damn quick. Still lacking a little stomp I though. Still not getting rid of my 1200s dvt with full termi…. my fav bike and a real animal.
Current V4 motor has more than enough power to get the rider in serious trouble. Not sure how anyone can use more power on a road bike. It will just sit there not being used but costing probably another £5k on top.
The V2 has more than enough power for the road, as did a GSXR1000 20 years ago, doesn’t stop people wanting more and willing to pay for it.
You should try it. Roads here are generally completely smooth and not 50% holes, far less traffic and the drivers are much more amenable to bikes. Plus it doesn’t rain more than not!
