The Cyclists/ebikers

  1. Just thought I would enquire on here as Nigel included E-bikes. I know there is a massive range out there, and the expensive ones need hardly worry about reliability or maintenance unless really hammered, but any other "budget" E-bike owners on the Forum? I would be interested to hear your experiences. I took a gamble on a secondhand "Oxygen" bike which uses a Bafang 250W rear wheel drive and a "Dorado" battery system. The bike had already been hammered and poorly maintained for over a year and this is what convinced me that the overall package was more robust than I had imagined. I have done around 1500 miles on mine so far and all that's gone wrong is the plastic bespoke battery nesting housings on the downtube have vibrated loose twice so am slowly upping the Loctite smearing to prevent this. Apart from a front fork upgrade, there honestly isn't anything that i would change on this bike, and it just keeps plugging away, i've not even broken a rear spoke yet, the first thing i expected to happen.

  2. The Amazon/ebay conversion kits seem popular with the local class A drug runners.
Kit also includes a free balaclava and machete...:upyeah:

  3. 20230821_121722.jpg I came across this beauty outside a bike shop in Banff today. The bike shop owner had just bought it, he said he would be on the front and just needed to find 3 idiots to go on the back! Imagine the speed that will do with 4 people on board!

  4. I hope they’re all fairly light, one disc up front.o_O

Tandems are great fun to ride, however if you’re the captain you always have a sense the stoker isn’t pedalling.:)

  7. I washed, cleaned and lubed my gravel bike this morning ready for a circular route taking in Imber village on Monday.

    https://imberchurch.org.uk/

I last rode there at Easter, which was a very hot and sunny day, probably not going to be as lucky this time.

  8. Have any of you bought easyouts for rounded Torx ?

One of my SRAM apex calipers bolts is rounded out. I have a big ride tomorrow but after I’m going to either

    A) have a go myself
    B) take the bike to the LBS

I don’t go for cheap tools, but the sort that last. On the other hand it’s only a T25, probably M4 so it didn’t ought be a big problem, other than the forks are carbon fibre.

  9. It’s sometimes possible to tap/hammer in a similar sized Allen key.

  10. Six of us rode to https://imberchurch.org.uk/ we stopped for cake at Codford Tea rooms and sandwiches at Warminster Waitrose. No punctures, it was a great day out. It’s also worth a ride on the motorbike, the army road is metalled from Gore Cross to Warminster.

  11. Did you sort your caliper?

  12. Not yet, I put up with the occasional rubbing pads yesterday. Hope to take a stern look at it after work today.

  13. No Vuelta thread?

make sure you watch the last 5k today if you haven’t seen it, sensational stuff.

Crazy race so far and only three days in

  14. Another fail, tomorrow I’m out on the road for work but hoping my brother in law might be available early evening and if nothing else two heads are better than one. He also has some small easy outs

  15. We’ve not as I recall ever put any of the races in the thread. It may be better to add it as a thread of its own.
Some on this forum hate cyclists but then in a bizarre plot twist enjoy watching cycle racing.
Plus it gives those who did comment of the TdF thread who don’t frequent this thread the chance to interact with fellow race fans.

  16. Fat, 50 year old puddings in lycra, three sizes too small for them, three abreast going down the 1393 on a sunday morning and yes thats me.
    (All others are ok)

I will start something in the racing section.

  17. Have you seen Merckx lately? He’d still kick my ass on a bike and maybe off it.

  18. No, i havent and im a late comer to cycling tbh.
However, Eddie Merckx doesnt hold up two miles of traffic down the single lane epping new road and put everyone behind him in an utterly shit mood :)

  19. First one in a week and a half. The evening light is fading fast ...
