Could anyone advise what cost it is to get a trellis frame sprayed on a 1098 as I've got very light rust pitting starting on it?
Depends on the coating you want? Ceramic, just paint or powder-coated my fickly friend. Add your location for others to help also, because you may need to post it. And obviously the frame is empty!
Depends on how much preparation you are prepared to do. If you fully strip the frame, treat the rust and mask up, you reduce the cost drastically. Next decision is quality, type of paint, powder, 2 pack, (and if you can find someone set up for it) cellulose. My preference would be 2 pack, not sure you can match the Ducati red in powder. I’ve use a local backstreet vintage vehicle sprayer, £200-£300 and I’ve used Custom Image Design, £400-£500. Andy
I'm in east Sussex. It's in bronze colour. Both ideas if possible, me stripping it with prep and someone else having the fun
I stripped my 748 frame over Christmas with various shaped wire brushes and wet and dry. Treated it with rust treatment. Sprayed the first coat of primer using upol rust prevention. Then filling primer. Sprayed bronze and laquer from RS bike paints. Cost £84 for the paint from RS. Everything else I already had
Yeah get yourself a little compressor & then a touch up spray pot from machine mart; clarke tg2 touch up spray pot (larger are available - I like it for ACF50 winter treatment). Can of thinners for cleaning & dilluting & learn a new skill'
These chaps... http://www.tpcs-magnesium-refurbs.co.uk/ I've used them to do a number of trellis frames. The red they use is a very good match, quilty work and was well priced. When I used them they were offering frame stripping and powder coating. Appears they no longer offer stripping.
Just had a Monster frame powder coated gloss black for £100 locally where as quotes for Cerakote were coming in at £45 for one foot rest hanger for example. If you are having powder bear in mind that the frame number will need masking off or it wont be visible afterwards.
I have the same issue & have been putting it off; it’s a big job for me to strip everything. I haven’t yet started because I haven’t found anyone who can match the OEM bronze in a durable finish.
It's not the top coat that matters its what's underneath that makes it durable and how you treat the metal before putting any paint on. RS bike paints are as close as you will ever get to the original bronze
I haven't had it done or priced yet, but this was for the winter job but I've been busy doing racing prep. I'm planning on Febuary time if I do do it.
