Clutch Slaves

  1. Theres loads about. From differing manufacturers etc. But what do people recommend as the best of the bunch. The one with the lightest touch? I have an MPL on my 916 and its fine but I want one now for the 1198 and wondered if there are better, lighter ones out there. By lighter i mean kinder to my hand. :)

  2. Oberon, mid price but best performance and build IMO. And is one of the only that can have anti spin pin if applicable.

antispin pin - a small pin that fits into the push rod stopping it spinning in the slave causing heat build up and wear to the piston, some models don't have it.

  3. I had guessed that they were good. My local dealer sells them so I will part with some hard earned for one. No wait, its my bday soon...haha...the wife can pay for it. Sweet.

  4. It transforms the ease of pull mate, well worth the money! You will be pleased.

  5. What Arthur said :upyeah:

  6. Just bear in mind the biting point will be further out than the OE version. Never had a problem with the standard clutch pull personally. I ride a BMW K1200RT/P from time to time, and its clutch is fairly heavy. Perhaps it's down to the riding position that sportier Dukes have heavy clutches?

  7. x 2

If you read oberons small print....they also cary a lifetime RTB guarantee.....don't see that too often these days.

  8. Fitted an Oberon cyl. to my bike, was underwhelmed with the change in feel, wasn't much lighter at all.

  9. I have one of these on the Monster and combined with a Brembo RCS master gives good performance.

I have an 'Evoluzione' slave cylinder on the 916 which gives similar results with the original master cylinder and this has a bearing seated into it as an 'anti spin' although in 14 years it's never spun...

  10. I had some issues with my dry clutch conversion on my 848, first air in the system gave a problem as when heated the air expands (hi revs on the dual carriageway) and the clutch would fade to nothing and then return moments later, the air was getting into the performance slave as no clips to stop the piston over traveling taking in air! Next I noticed the push rod was spinning with the clutch some of the time, the push rod they give you can have the small pin fitted however few slaves can be used with it so it was removed, when looking at other slave options I quickly noted that the Oberon could utilize the anti-spin pin, pin refitted no chance it could spin up in the slave. :) Happy days :)

  11. I run Oberon on my '93 SS where the clutch lever load was 10 kgs FFS before the change and a touch over 6kgs after fitting (using a small spring balance at the lever tip. Also silky smooth so massive improvement.

I've also changed the clutch slave on my Pani to an Oberon but for different reasons - The OEM item is known for partially seizing when hot and Oberon beat the factory in producing one that works properly. Again silky smooth but same load as the bore is identical.

FWIW, when ordering the Pani earlier this year, I went to the Dealer armed with my spring balance to check out the clutch load on their demonstrator (just under 6kgs) - I did get some odd looks and telling them I was fully certified did not help!

  12. Anything that reduces the strain on my wrists and hand is welcome. No matter how slight. Both my wrists have been broken twice. U Turning BMW, then 1 week out of plaster a suicidal fat pedestrian ran in front of me and I broke me again. In different places. Both times I was on a KTM 300cc Enduro. Plus Ive a tendon problem (Dupitrons contracture) on my left hand which has claimed my little finger and the next finger is slowly succumbing to it too. Thus I am running out of fingers and my grip is reducing. Heavy traffic can hurt me. Not a huge issue on normal roads and normal traffic, but city riding can be a pain.

Ive already got my eye on a thumb gear shift thing. Foot shifting is still alien to me after so many years growing up on Lambrettas with a hand gear change. Even now after I havent ridden a lammy for over 20yrs I still sometimes try to shift with my left wrist.

I am not gonna stop riding sports bikes though whilst I still have 3 good fingers on my left wrist.

Its been added to my birthday list. Wifey has been informed and shown where to get it.

  13. You could fit Translogic powershift, I have a guy who uses the larger push button shifter often seen around on his trike but I forget the name, it's big and bulky unlike the Translogic, Speedycom sell them around £800.00 for the complete unit, thing is you would still need the clutch at times even with a Quickshifter too, speak to Wilf at MR or ask Dave at Snells he may know but years ago I tested a automatic clutch that Wilf fitted to a monster it was great in that you can pull up, stop, change gear with no clutch like an automatic, you could if you wish still use the clutch but no point tbh, so sat in N chuck in 1 ride off, no clutch required! Even pull up in traffic in 6 and just stop, click down into 1 and ride off, very strange! Can't remember the name of it.

  14. Its the translogic powershift I am eyeing up. With quickshift. I can still use my hand okay. I just have 80% of the grip most people have coz Ive a finger less. Soon to be 60% after my other finger tightens up. As My remaining fingers are towards the inside of the lever I also lose the leverage benefits the outside 2 fingers give you. That combined with my bloody lambretta habit means I can cock up the odd gear change. No problem on the road really, but a gearbox problem when hammering into a corner on a track day. Basically I hate changing gear with my foot. I feel unbalanced when i do.

  15. Ive ridden with the bigger solenoid shifter and its rather cool! The TL is a third of the size of the one I used. There are pneumatic ones on the market too but they need a small compressor built into the system too but again I know a guy who has just that and a Quickshifter, you could have a blipper for push button downshifts and with a slipper clutch you would have quite a system just a case of how big a sky rocket you have ;)

  16. My sky rocket isnt huge. TBH I bat above my weight owning two dukes. :)

Ive an STM 48T on my 916 which I may pinch and put on the 1198 as the 916 is on a SORN as my sky rockets dont reach to insure, tax and mot two bikes at once. :(

Plus i have an old VW camper which is a bloody money pit too.

I need more money, anyone need a kidney?
