Fuel Shortage

  1. 999 going fine but started lagging at speeds, eventually (in fast lane) starts to cut out then dies.. Feels like running out of fuel. Waited 15 mins tried and it started , off for another 2 miles then the same. Hoped like this the10 miles home. Both vents at fuel cap are clear and no pinching on fuel lines.. Any ideas , please ?

  2. Best answer was to start this thread Rich, and thanks for update re: breathers - when was fuel filter last changed/when was last time anyone checked on all fuel hoses in tank/supply to injectors?

  3. My experience would say fuel filter although mine never completely died,

  4. I changed the filter at the onset - it is an R one but don't see any problems with that ...

  7. Check the entire length of the breather pipes can pass air, blow (or suck) through them. Check also the plastic Y joint hasn’t become blocked.
    It does sound like an inability to pass the volume of fuel needed at higher revs.

  8. Minute holes in the vacuum pipes? Won’t allo fuel to be pulled through especially at higher revs ime

  9. Just been out on it with the GT85 - cut out many time with maybe a back fire on occasion. Faint motor running noise from beneath sounds a bit weak on one occasion, cant get the helmet off quick enough! GT start then off again , did manage 2 miles then got worst and every 1000 m. Its a puzzle !

  10. I had similar on my 999. It was found that the tank and vertical cylinder had rubbed through the insulation on the wires into the fuel pump connector. The wire was exposed and was shorting onto the vertical cylinder. Took the wires out of the connector and double shrink tubed them to be sure. While you are at it replace the injector/pump/coil relay at the back of the battery box (this really should be done every service). Move the relay to the top of the battery box to the square rubber receptacle (makes changes a doddle in the future).

  12. Tank off and close inspection on pump connector plus cable looks good to junction of mail loom - maybe relay is becoming the issue, thought they work or don't ?

  13. The weak sound from the fuel pump could be the bad connections somewhere so will check behind the battery box , change relay as well :)

  14. Changed the relay and have done a 4 mile test and all okay !! Always the relay! By the way, indicators packed up for a year and me thinking wiring around the steering head a the problem- bought a new front loom, never fitted. Changed the ecu and indicators working ! Happy days and thanks for your helps
