To be fair I take my Multistrada down to a local workshop to get the chain adjusted. The ask me £5 and I give the lad £10. It’s a lot easier than twatting about doing it myself.
Fair enough. But going to a dealer to adjust your mirrors is just ridiculous, in my opinion. For example, if my mirrors are out of adjustment, according to Ducati I should ride for 45 minutes to my nearest dealer to adjust them when I could do it in two minutes at home. I've been riding for 51 years and might just about have got the hang of mirror adjustment by now
Yep, mirror adjustments are just about in my remit, but getting my hands greasy adjusting the chain is menial work that only the butler undertakes.
It seems it’s not just Ducati. I’d forgotten how to change my watch strap so Googled it and went to the top result, which is from the manufacturer so thought it would be the best choice, nah
I reckon the difference with your watch strap is that the dealer would happily do it for nothing - valuing you as a customer...
View attachment 301365 Yeah, everyone's DIY capacity is different, since we as humans are all different. I'm not here to debate the pros and cons of dealer versus home mechanics. I will say that I've dropped my MSV4S twice on both sides. Thankfully the mirrors didn't break, but simply rotated. As I tightened them down I found it odd that the right-hand mirror had the reverse (left-handed) thread pattern. I felt that it must have been an error during assembly as the wind would eventually loosen the mirror stalk. So I switched the right and left mirror/brake/clutch handlebar clamps. Very cool that Ducati has the threaded portion on just the inner half of the clamp in the event I break the mirror stud off, I won't have to replace the entire lever. Anyway after reviewing the torque values for something else, I found the value for the mirrors at 40nms! Holy crap that's tight for mirror bolts. It was then I noticed in the manual that the RH mirror uses a left-hand thread so I switched them back. My feeling is both sides use the 'reverse' of what seemed logical to me so that if (or like when for me) a fall occurs it allows the mirror stalks to loosen and pivot, as mine did during falls. And at 40nms of torque, no amount of wind is gonna allow them to loosen, that's for sure.
The RH mirror screws have always been a left hand thread, regardless of manufacturer. It’s a safety measure in case of impact.. they fold back. 916/999/1098 etc. had shear screws, the later Superbikes are designed to fold or break away…
Never knew that, thanks. Never owned a Duck until recently. Removed mirrors for the track on my Honda.
