I was only thinking it’s time to get my lights out. I always use a Garmin RTL 515, but it only has a 4 hour battery life, which is fine most of the time, but not at weekends.
sad/anorak memory department, I had a few of the right-hand one, but an earlier version I think, had similar to the front, left-hand one, but had more of the steel version, painted in a dull silver. The batteries were so heavy the unit would bounce around and either the top pop off or the whole unit.
I can only recall the plastic body versions. The battery as stated above was both heavy and expensive. There has been much improvement in lighting, pity some cyclists still insist in sporting no lights at all whilst dressed as a Ninja just to compound the issue. I also spotted an old Raleigh for sale in a bicycle repair/reseller yesterday with the light bracket still attached to the fork leg. I’m so tempted to buy it just for the sake of riding an old school gas pipe bike.
I remember many bikes coming with a massive threaded boss on the fork to mount the lights. You could never leave the lights on your bike as they would defo get nicked, especially at school. So, you you'd have to remove them and carry them around all bloody day! Happy days...
Your school sounds very upmarket. Where I lived they’d leave the lights as they were just too heavy and leave you bikeless.
Not at all, rough as fuck local comprehensive....You could risk riding to school on the pavement with no lights, but there was a genuine risk of getting shouted at by the police and told to push your bike home (back when they gave a shit) or, if you were posh enough to have lights AND batteries, then off they'd come for the day. I also did a paper round before school, which meant I was a heavy battery user/dodger of police cars....
I can relate to the Police thing as they mostly knew who you were and where you lived. In fact my elder brothers mates Dad was the local beat Bobby. Complete with either a MZ or CZ motorcycle, I don’t recall the exact make but some Eastern European motorcycle shaped object.
I had a Raleigh grifter with those lights on , I must have been a strong cyclist at 11 years old to pedal that much weight along .
I ordered new cycling glasses today. Complete with clear glasses cos we won't be needing shades till at least next May....
I bought mine online from RXsport, but two, quite separate friends in different places have been telling me just how good specsavers are.
