  1. Now, where did I put that frame?
FFS, this is painfully slow! PXL_20230521_140520715.MP.jpg PXL_20230521_140511500.MP.jpg

  6. Countcoupe,
If you can I would try and think about the first measurements for setting the suspension up, especially the rear. I am no expert (so please correct me) but I think you need some reference with no weight on the suspension. I am finding it a bit hard to do on my own, (arrrrrrrrrh) and with everything back on the bike its getting heavy.

I thought I had set my rear to the recommended settings, can't remember where I got it from but it looks similar to yours. I am approx low 90's kg excl gear and it looks like it keep bottoming out according to my tie wrap.

    Great thread, brings back memories.

    Cheers Gaz

  7. Hi Gaz, I have re-read your post a few times and I have finally grasped what you're on about. Are you saying there is a relevance to be taken from three different sag measurements. Stripped bike, fully built bike, and bike with rider sat on it?

  9. Hey Charlie,
is the tank snagging on the throttle cables ?

  10. Hey Ian, it was the tank prop!!!. If fitted the wrong way round and in the stowed position, it rests on the frame when the tank is lowered!!
It took quite a while to work that out!

In other news, I've got the seat back from Motorcycle Seat Works in Bradford.

  13. Sorry I think I missed this message. I was saying I think the first measurement was to measure full suspension length bottomed (or topped) out. So pick the front up and measure exposed stansion length and pick the back up and measure distand fron axle center to some vertical reference point. I was saying this is easier when the bike is ligther and everthing is not built back up and lighter.

So when everthing is built back up you can calculate the free /static sag. I think a figure of about 5-10 mm seems to be quoted in a few places. With everything built back up its a bit heavier and harder. Then measure the rider sag which front seems to be 35-40mm rear 30-35 for street riding.

I need to read up on spring rate but get the impression that if you can't achieve these figures then spring rate is wrong for rider weight. (please correct if I am talking rubbish as I am not sure if rider sag includes free sag)

Great build, like plating where did you get it done (just for ref)

    Cheers Gaz

  14. Found a bit more info. It looks like static sag and rider sag are taken off the base measurement ie when all weight is taken off suspension and its bottomed out, rather than taking the rider sag off the static sag once the bike has settled under its own weight.

    Cheers Gaz.

  15. So the big day arrived and I tried to start it.
    It didn't go to well.
I've had to dismantle the exhaust and drain the petrol out of it!!!!!!!
I plumbed the fuel hose in to the overflow port!
I was feeling really pleased with myself too, after I solved a couple of electrical gremlins this morning.

  16. Finished ish!!! PXL_20230830_160935074.MP.jpg

  17. I am surprised to see mirrors are not on the motorcycle MOT check list. I did not know that.

    Cheers Gaz

  18. Looks great another one back on the road, i do like the early decals.
I looked back at your first post photo which had 748 series forks? was there much to change in order to make them fit,

  19. Hi Gaz, The right hand mirror is fitted. The L hand mirror needs painting, hence the 'ish'. The tank, mirrors and fairings etc need painting. I've run out of money!!
I've got a list of other stuff I need or want to do.
The front brakes are binding a little with the added irony that they're very spongy!
    Clutch stack needs attention.
Carburetion. I'm going to pop it in a rolling road and get it sorted properly once and for all
