Desmo & M1200r - Stolen

Discussion in 'Stolen Bikes/Parts' started by Dibble, Aug 31, 2023.

  1. Posted by JHP on FB - Anyone gets offered anything:

These two bikes belonging to one of our Fantastic customers were stolen yesterday from the South Kensington area of London.

Both in a fully secure location, where it has taken some serious thought to be able to get to them !
Let’s share this post as much as possible to try and help find these beloved bikes.

  2. Sorry to hear about that, scum bags all around now, not just London. Hope the bikes are recovered in good nick and may the toe rags burn in hell.

  3. Holy sheet, not good.

BTW Dibs, your strap line may be viewed as a little insensitive considering the subject of your post…

  4. Thats horrible news to have to break to someone. Out of interest presumably that would go through JHP insurance not the owners?

  5. No, they were stolen from the owners home, JHP publicising as its a long term valued customer.

    JHP are in Coventry.

  6. No trackers ?

  7. I now seriously doubt the effectiveness of trackers. A friend of mine had his very nice bike stolen, he could see it happening but was up a building, they were away in a minute. The bike tracker started, he called the police(inner London)and had them in the phone for nearly an hour describing turn by turn where the bike was. The constant response from the police was no units available. After an hour the van went into Blackwall tunnel and the signal stopped there.

I recently ran a dummy quote to see what reduction a tracker would make to my insurance…..£15 a year less!

I seriously think a GOS luggage or dog tag is going to work just as well for little money. Many bike thefts now have the bike ridden for a couple of minutes, hidden for 24 hours then they return to see if you have found it or not. Apparently if you find it you are allowed to ride it away if in roadworthy condition.

  8. Trackers are useless unless the bike/car thief is a foolish opportunist. I can disable the tracker 10ft before I get near the car/bike. Layered security is the best approach. This is the approach taken by top end thieves that general steal to order. Ive seen Faraday vans that have been modified to accommodate the grab and snatch. Some intuitive thieves out there.
