What type of riding is it for? Colin should be able to give you track and road settings. Which will be good for the road and good for easy track days. Depends how quick you are really - are you at the pointy end of the fast group on a track day? If so, there's a few extra things people are doing to 848s around the world to get them to handle properly. Mine has had it all done, that's why I bought this particular bike. To get the bike turning well most people adjust the rake/trail of the forks by using a different set of yokes with a different offset to factory. Mine also has the ohlins 30mm cartridge kit and the ohlins ttx shock - pretty good equipment, I was lucky. At the moment the bike is too low in the rear for me and I can't get it to turn like I want to - but it's otherwise perfect and I know that I can dial her in to turn the way I want with that equipment. The guy I bought the bike off also weighs the same as me so the spring rates were correct straight up! Rich at Louigi Moto can also help you set the bike up. He's set a few of mine up over the years and knows his onions. He loaned me one of his 748s once to go race at Snetterton simply because I hadn't raced in a while. The guy is a legend. I took it out on the practice day and on my first flying lap I go for the anchors at the end of Revett Straight and the forks take a monumental dive and the rear wheel came straight off the deck and I shat myself! I came in, rang Rich and told him and he goes "Oh yeah, Becca was riding that last (his 50kg ex-gf) so you want to add some compression etc etc" Made the changes and it was instantly better and comfortable. It needed one more phone call and one more set of tweaks and I was lapping Snetterton faster than I'd been round there before. That's instant feedback and confirmation of some well thought out settings based on a lot of knowledge and experience. Including racing - Rich, for a long time and maybe still does, was the fastest 748 around Pembrey and he was up against some very quick boys. He used to instruct all the time but now only does it occasionally. A great guy to have in your corner at the track.
Actually, here's some people I've had personal experience of who could help - these guys have setup racebikes that I've ridden or owned: HM Racing (Orpington) These guys setup my first 996 and it was awesome! Honestly, I was in heaven on that bike. Neil Spalding - Sigma (he sold parts of the Sigma business to one of the Southern dealerships, but I can't remember which one) He set up my first race bike and it was brilliant. I'm pretty sure he focusses on the journalism and eurosport broadcasts these days but may be available? Rich - Louigi Moto - absolute legend Mike Dawson/Anthony - MD Racing Mike and Anthony set up one of my bikes as well and it was the most neutral, best handling bike ever. Anthony definitely knows his shit, Mike is good too, and together they made some fairly dramatic changes, very quickly, which transformed a bike I'd been moaning about all season :biggrin: Paul Debnam - ex-CSS coach, he set up one of my bikes one year and I learned a lot working with him. We did a lot of off track drills together. One of those days was great, we were running the off track drills just next to the Stowe circuit at Silverstone and there was up to 3 guys practicing stunting on their fireblade stunt bikes on the hardpan right next to us. It was great to watch in between classes.
He overhauled my 749rssrss forks at Brands in oct. Great guy to deal with, very informative and knowledgable. Without the bullshit baflles brains speak. Perry at HM (not at Orpington anymore) set up my SP2 a few years back, it wasn't on the settings he said it was, when I got it home.
Is this the same Neil Spalding that commentates on the Moto gp these days? I'm not looking to spend big bucks on re-valve,etc but just want the standard suspension set up for my size and weight and mainly for road use and the occasional track day so this Colin at 100% sounds like he could help
Well it's looking like I'm going to be doing a track day at Silverstone in Aug so the plan is to get Colin from 100pc suspension to set it up then but now starting to wonder if it's worth buying and fitting an adjustable linkage in advance? Has anyone gone down this route and is it worth it?
Got one but still not fitted. I'd get him to set it up first then take it from there. You might not even need it.
If you mean the ride height bar, get one. Whether or not it changes when set ip, when you adjust your chain you will need to maybe change the ride height to get back to where it was. Worth having imho
Just returned from silverstone trackday where I had Colin from 100pc suspension sort my suspension. can't recommend him highly enough. made some basic adjustments before first session which transformed the bike and then tweaked it throughout the day.
