Wrist Ache?

  1. Always

  2. I haven’t ridden a hyper, but from google pics there seems to be a fair amount of “pull-back” on the handlebar bend. From experience of MX, this usually results in the thumb side of the wrist presenting to the handlebar in a more-or-less straight line. If you have a bend with less pull-back, the little finger side of the wrist is more straight.
I always preferred the second option, to avoid aches and fatigue, even more so after Scaphoid breaks, and always switched out standard bars to a Renthal bend with the right lift and pull-back to suit me. Might be worth considering. Loads of brands and bends available.

  3. That’s interesting you say that. I was thinking maybe some Rox Risers, as there’s a lot of adjustability on those. I had them on most of my GS’s, but never bothered on my last few bikes. I may have to revisit that option I guess, or as you say, switch out the bars.

  4. I had this on my old 848 when I first got it…….I rode it every day for 3 weeks. I got used to it.

  5. As said. Have a good play with your bar & lever positions. I had to cut the lugs off the lever perches to make it more comfortable for my riding position.

  6. On second thoughts have you considered some bar-end weights? To dampen them down

  7. That could be another option. I may just see how I fare after the trip this weekend, as they’re not aching as much as after the first ride, so maybe I just need to get a bit more used to it.

  8. As said sweep and hight of bars. Sweep upsets my wrist both ways too much or too little. I usually look out for second hand CCM fatbars made by renthal, as I can't find the angles to compare to new ones but I know they work for me.

  10. Which hyper?

  11. 950SP

  12. I’ve checked, and the angle of the levers is the same as my Multi, so it’s not that. Must be riding position/ style. I looked at the Evotech bar end weights, but they don’t fit with the OEM handguards, so they’re out, as I’m not going to start messing about with rerouting indicators etc. Will see how it goes this weekend, and go from there.

  13. I had a similar problem with my MT09 and it was the bar shape and height, changed to Pro Taper bars and it’s loads better now.

  14. Right..can't comment as I've got an old 1100……so can't comment...for me....bit of a sore arse after I've been on it for a few hours!

  15. Is there a difference compared to the multistrada bars

  16. Yeah that’s the next challenge!

Wrists weren’t too bad after riding all day yesterday, so I may be getting used to it now. The exercises at the pub may have helped too.

  17. I don’t think they’re as wide.

  18. Which has the most sweep back? I find with a straighter bar keeping the elbows up like a motocrosser helps the wrists.

  19. If you can be bothered to measure your current bars, and mess about with the Renthal handlebar comparison app, true wrist comfort is within your grasp :) other makes probably have similar.
