Probably getting ahead of myself, but won an OE Ducati seat cowl on the infamous site. It has a camera mount on it which i think put people off. I thought, it couldn't be any worse than any of my other panels, so took a punt and won it, cheap. It turned up today and its PPF'd / clear filmed, so sprayed the camera mount sticky pad with a load of GT85 and i'll fishing wire that off later. The cowl is genuine Ducati with the seat/front hump and is in Corse SE colours, so matches my other panels (without the scratches!) and is in, what i would describe as, mint condition. A win!
Thanks for the links. Always worth checking. I am not entirely convinced he knows his way around a Ducati any better than i do! I think i'll rely on advice from folk on here and the Ducati Manual. I am enjoying the project regardless, as its educating me
No that particular chap was a bit of a D**K from what we could see. The original owner of the bike, a member here, contacted him to see if he wanted help/history and was basically called a liar and told to F-off Shame

Thanks @Serjames I hope by keeping all this in one place we can help anyone else who has similar issues in future with timing belts. I will take loads of photos as i get to the final stages of fitting the belts
Has anyone in Bristol area got a flywheel holder for a 848, maybe 1098 too, as the one I purchased doesn't fit (I have contacted the seller and awaiting a confirmation to return). I can't reassemble this side without that tool. It's getting frustrating!
Spoke to the seller and apparently i ordered the wrong 848 flywheel holder. The Evo 2012 uses a different holder. Essentially the starter motor gear spindle is in the way. The later 848 Evo tool has a cut out to take consideration of said spindle. Posted wrong one back and awaiting replacement... I'll get there in the end. I am still hopeful of a late summer ride on the 848... To entertain myself, pointlessly i guess at this stage, i have found a very local powercoating firm who are keen to assist in doing some bike parts, so i might get the head covers done as they are showing a bit of wear. Now, what colour should I do... Black, Gold, Silver? Or something completely different?
Received the new flywheel holder...and it doesn't work. The design means 1 x 6mm bolt is supposed to lock the flywheel in place whilst you exert the 330nm of torque to the centre nut. No thanks. I'll send that back Now booked in at Louigi Moto to get them to do the flywheel nut and the belts. Cheaper than buying all / more tools and it gets it done. I want it on the road this year and we are fast running out of summer sunshine. I can then concentrate on the rest of the bike I also noted another error on my part. I bought a race scrub 180 60 ZR 17. That profile won't fit the swingarm, as the tyre is too high and rubs the swingarm. Now swapped for a 180 55 ZR 17. An amazing difference in rolling diameter, I was quite surprised. The ole GSXR would have swallowed up either tyre. So, you have been warned Subframe and undertray refitted and reassembled the rear indicators as both had popped off their stems. All good now. Front end fully reassembled and refitted along with cleaned calipers and mudguard. Now a rolling chassis again, which is a real positive. Need a new bar as rhs is slightly bent and grazed at end. Refit loom next along with injectors and airbox
mmm, not posted for a few weeks as got distracted by life, gardening, house and kids. I guess in my sub-concious i am waiting for the belts and da bit flywheel nut to be done to re-boost my mojo and get going again. I keep picking bits up to refit and then realise i can't fit it as it needs a cover on or will be in way of belts or... you get the picture. On the plus side i fitted a new footpeg to the rhs rearset so they now match. Karma eh! Must post a picture soon, or folk will start to think it has dissolved in time
Webby01 - You don't happen to have an 848evo crank and rods lying about do you? I seized the big end on mine a couple weeks ago. Now just have a rather large pile of parts .
Short answer yes Longer answer - I just want to hear mine running before getting rid of loads of spares. If you are not in a hurry then keep reminding me! I am booked for belts and work next weekend so should know a week of so following after I rebuild missing case, radiator etc
Quick update: Collected bike from Luigi Moto yesterday. Belts fitted and timed up (along with reset of cam pulleys as on the EVO these need (re)timing when heads are removed), headbolt torque checked, flywheel nut threadlocked and torqued up (330Nm!). Engine good to go hopefully, just need to rebuild the rest of the bike now. The bill was less than the price of 2 of the tools required to do the job. They are a friendly bunch and offered loads of advice too, so recommendation from me. Got bike home, refitted lhs engine case along with all radiator pipes, fitted sidestand, started refitting the loom, but need my photos and manual as reference as to where the cables all line up/fit. I labelled the plugs, but its how it straps to the frame that's important to get right. Fitted spark plugs and clocks with bracket Back on it this evening and hopefully get the wiring sorted along with throttle bodies, injectors and airbox If it all goes together without fighting me, we may get a trackday this year
A productive evening last night of feeding cables to their respective plugs and positions. Refitted center section of exhaust and O2 sensor. Refitted header tank and routed cabling back into coolant tank clips. Starting to look less daunting as pieces and components are refitted! Be good to get the injectors, throttle bodies and airbox back on and then the tank and end cans. Then i will be in a position to try starting the ole girl... Maybe this evening
If you lay the loom on the bike 99% of the connectors are obvious. 3 that I got wrong (and to my knowledge one other on here) are three identical connectors that when the loom is in place hang below the headstock. 2 are for the Fans and the other is for the "aerial" around the ignition. Needless to say mix them up the bike won't start
Luckily I labelled the key ariel so hopefully all good. I did lay it out, but its getting it right side of frame rails and getting plugs located on tabs correctly, but almost there...
Just ran her up to temp, topping up coolant etc and let the fans kick in. Sounds great Slight oil weep on LHS crankcase as Ducati use sealant rather than gaskets and my sealant skills obviously need development. But considering this is my first attempt with a Ducati rebuild, happy so far. Yes i farmed out the belts, but hey ho, make the best use of your time i say. I don't want a load of tools hanging up gathering dust that i may never use again. Booked in MOT for tomorrow, as it ran out a week ago. Doh! So tonight is going to be busy getting everything back together with fairings, lights etc, but lets be honest, that's easy compared to engines and its not like i need to be careful with the panels! Should fly through, so long as the tester likes Akrapovic bass tunes , oh and tatty panels
