  2. Why would it apply to cyclists? Traffic lights don't....

  3. It does, just some will make a conscious decision to ignore any law they find inconvenient.
It’s just should a cyclist ignore the speed limit there is no meaningful sanction should he be stopped for it.

  4. Me too in built up areas, especially school day start or end

  5. You can get points on your driving licence for cycling offences, or so I understand, eg drunk cycling..

  6. I believe your understanding is incorrect.

  7. I hope you pointed out the speed limit applies to motor vehicles...

  8. do any of you know who this is? let me give you a couple of clues. despite the quick U turn he is not a labour member of the Senadd and he penned an article in the daily mail calling it a "mad scheme"

  9. This is from the Government's guidance on Setting Local Speed Limits;

The national speed limit on street lit roads is 30 mph.

Traffic authorities can, over time, introduce 20mph speed limits or zones on major streets where there are – or could be - significant numbers of journeys on foot where pedal cycle movements are an important consideration, and this outweighs the disadvantage of longer journey times for motorised traffic.

This is in addition to residential streets in cities, towns and villages, particularly where the streets are being used by people on foot and on bicycles, there is community support and the characteristics of the street are suitable.

Where they do so, general compliance needs to be achievable without an excessive reliance on enforcement.

Given that people are complaining about non-compliance with the 30mph limit, how do they think they will achieve compliance simply by changing the signs?

It will do nothing for air quality either, despite the fanciful claims.

  10. "This can happen if the cyclist is charged with 'furious cycling'. Although you may not have your drivers' licence endorsed with penalty points for offences made on a bicycle, the court does have a general power to disqualify anyone from driving, even for offences done on a bike."
No points but you can get banned

  11. No one should be jumping red lights, bike or car.
However, I do find it funny when motorists start waving the highway code at cyclists, when they, themselves have very likely recently, exceeded the speed limit, failed to indicate, and had a sneaky look at their phone.

  12. If signage is damaged via spray or graffitti the 'fines' can't stand up in court.

  14. How are they going to know who you are? No reg plate- no traceability. If a cop pulls you on a bicycle you can just tell him or her any old bollox. Simple…

  16. You can’t, you don’t need a revocable licence to ride a cycle. The only offence I’m aware of should you be caught speeding on a cycle is ‘furious riding’.

  17. See my correction above, you can't get points but can get disqualified by a court

  19. He is correct. People are being banned from driving for drunk cycling, and operating electric scooters drunk as well.
