  1. e-scooters are different as they are classed as a motorized vehicle, users should have tax and insurance etc.

  2. If it makes people use their legs and walk, then i am all for it. If you check the average speed log on your car's dash, i bet it reads less than 30 mph for your driving over a long period of time with all sorts of different journeys. That has very little to do with speed limits and everything to do with the stupid amount of traffic on UK roads. We have reached a point where just adding more traffic will mean a car will be a waste of time and money in urban areas as it wont get you there any quicker.
People rush around like fucking idiots trying to cram 30 hours into a 24 hour day and wonder why they don't achieve it.

Every death on the road costs the Country circa £1.5-2 million.

  3. I rarely use my van at the weekend or if I pop to town. Preferring to walk as it’s close enough not to warrant using a car, a little further then it’s bicycle time.
My partner and daughter are typical car users though and will use their cars for journeys that are ridiculously close, then complain how much petrol they use no amount of explanation as to why sinks in.

  4. I often wonder how much some of my neighbours spend on fuel per week. I bet some are £100+ but never go more than 20 miles away.

  5. This is the logic. So effectively halving the stopping distance.

  6. I think I said above that in most of Fishguard, where it wasn't already 20, but is now, you struggle to do more than 20 anyway, so completely agree

  7. Before I retired I was fortunate enough to be close enough to work to be able to cycle, I flipping loved it! Got there as quick and a lot less stressed.
Unless it's lashing with rain, or I'm going shopping (heavy load) I never use my car for short journeys, not 'cuse I'm particularly tight or greenie, I simply can't be arsed. I find it far simpler and less stressful to pedal.

  8. Exactly.
Make people think that there is another (and maybe quicker) option than jumping in a car to clog up the roads.
Which is why public transport should get massive investment to produce clean, quick and efficient ways of travel that get priority over one car with one person sat in it.
Trams are the way forward in larger towns and cities. Some already have them and they are the best way to get around.

  9. My ebike is the fastest way to work. Really upsets car drivers as I go whizzing past

  11. Whilst you can be banned, I responded to the original post saying you could get points on your driving licence for pedal cycling offences, which was not correct, as Ivor has acknowledged.

  14. All good until 5-0 does a PNC check and arrests you on the grounds that it is necessary to establish your correct name and address and/or for wasting police time o_O

  15. I heard about a guy who got nicked riding an unrestricted eBike (ie: a motorbike according to the law) while drunk and amassed about a million points for no licence, no insurance, careless driving (as he was on the pavement), umpteen construction and use fines for no indicators, no headlight, no number plate etc, plus the mandatory disqualification for DD.

  16. There's a LOT of modified (twist and go) e-bikes around here...Plod are basically ignoring them now, maybe I'll not tax and insure my car, see how that works out.

  17. Same round here, invariably with a balaclava. Not sure why though as Police look the other way.
Kinda like when my mate got nicked in Wales during Convid, he got sent home. A group of patched bikers who rode through at the end of his convo with 5-0 were ignored……
Only the low hanging fruit is taken to task….

  18. Quite satisfying. But no matter how tempting, don’t take the piss by doing it every day. It’s surprising how much time and effort they can spend on capturing people who agitate them. I knew a biker that would wheelie past speed cameras- his plate unreadable due to the angle. They clocked his helmet, leathers, bike make etc… it didn’t take long… :astonished:
