So what DOES make a good Forum?

Right then - forums:

Technical forums are shite and boring, but dead handy when you've blown something up. You tend to get one person who's declared themselves the boss, and a couple of hangers-on who make him feel even more important. This does not make a forum.

Lounge: This is my arena, I can't think of anything worse than talking about motorbikes all day. I find it hard to participate in any forum unless I can get to know the members. I realise others aren't so keen - I know this cos they keep appearing and telling us so...

Marque/model specific: The most boring of all. There's only so many things that go wrong with particular bikes (mutley excepted...) so the subject material is so stifled as to be worthless. Use it as a search facility only, then get the hell out of there.

Moderators: One is plenty.

Trolls: Annoying but needed on a forum. Without trolls we'd have no-one to spit at.


For me the ducati forum strikes an excellent balance, there's a section for everyone and plenty of intelligent conversation, as well as the usual forum fluff. Personally, I think model-specific forums are a waste of space; stick all the bike tech stuff in one forum and that forum would be a lot livelier. And perhaps you could consider a bike-only forum for all marques and any bike-related banter. But don't look too deep into this thread, the forum's fine as it is, one of the better ones I reckon.

Things got better when Stoner retired as that subject was a major cause of Angst. If he come back all hell will break loose if Marquez pinches his sweeties.

Generally the forum is good. A little tongue lashing is par for the course, it reminds us of the need to step back from the keyboard now and then.

For me, a good forum is like an electrical mans best friend. Best friend being a dog....don't answer back and always willing to help and look after you. Was going to say like a good wife but that would be to much.
