yes, two old boys, who should know a lot better decide upon the mother of all race weekends, it was, as they say, emotional. (bike behaved it's self beyond popping the tail light 20 mins from home) I'll post some more images if anyone is interested. cheers.
Bet that was epic was good to see Guintoli win with Suzuki (albeit from his sick bed). Get some more pics up please
Thanks all, confession time, being an i phone novice (wife gave it to me day before I left to track me) I've got to consult IT support (wait for my daughter to get home from work) to discover the how to, I seem to have taken more video than pics? please bear with. (I only have the picture above as wifey emailed it to me) We stayed in Le Beausset and the ride up to and down from the circuit was great fun, naturally the locals have the whip hand, in jeans and trainers and if the pegs are not dragging you aint sh*t. Even the bike mounted Gendarmes are giving it large style in convoy. The not so good is purely down to the distance and time available, would definitely need 3 days either side of the weekend for it to make more sense, or perhaps as part of a longer holiday down there. (Edit) forgot to mention the bargain ticket price, 61 euro for general admission for all three days, another 5 euro if you want to park a vehicle, and 10 euro more if camping.
Bloody cheap for 3 days, bet the roads in France are the same as the A12 Waiting for your IT department to sort photos.
Looking forward to this, last time I went to the Bol was 1989.... Oh my god where did that time go! Mind you we camped next to the track and they let us all loose out on the circuit on the Monday - it was bonkers. happy days.
Bonkers is correct, they let the campers out on track Friday and Saturday, dress code appeared optional! this is the bike park Friday Afternoon, my ss and mate Simon's SPY (50k miles) The calm before the storm Friday again Friday evening 20:00hrs, the riders line up for the 2hr night part of the classic endurance, bikes up to the 90's RC30, ZXR750, YZF750, 888's amongst others, the riders had support from friends and family in the crowd and the mood was somewhat light hearted but still very exciting, frame lifted from video, apologies for quality.
Good stuff! Did you get any sleep? - I went before covid and last year... The racket at 4am in the camping area was something to behold, like a pack of wolves! Bikes bouncing off the rev-limiter at 4 am! A guy doing a burn out with his back tyre on fire!! Unbelievable...
ok, last couple of images, no one likes a holiday bore! The bike park late on Saturday afternoon. On the road down to Le Beausset from the circuit. Two old boys who should know better! Thanks for indulging me, and thanks for all the kind replies, was it worth it? In the main yes, would I go again? hmm? You'll have to ask me again in a few months time. cheers. WAH
Yeah, le Bol attracts all kind of people, including Attila and his Huns. Except they don’t ride horses anymore, but bikes instead. Funny to witness but sometimes too much. And totally suicidal to camp in the midst of this crowd… I kinda got scared for my bike last time I went, about 10 years ago. The night racing is phenomenal, though.
I rode with that hell-bound hoard in my early 20s , completely by accident , with no clue as to why there were so many fast moving bikes in France , heading south ..... I'd never even heard of the Bol D'Or ! I just thought .... Great ! , lots of easy prey for plod , behind me and in front It was my first ever touring trip in Europe on a bike ..... [ BMW R90S , with the usual optional extras on the back .... tent , gf , etc. ] . But everything was explained to me at my first campsite stop , which was packed with bikes , BTW
Congrats on doing it. I went in 1984 when, I was in my thirties, on my Guzzi T3. It doesn't seem to have changed much! I remember following a local, up that winding hill to the track. He was carrying a case of beer on the back until it slid off going through one of the curves. Beer and glass all over the road!!! I was lucky to miss it but those behind ..??? It defo needs three days either side for the travel. I went down in two and it almost killed me, even at that age! The trip back though was phenominal. Love to do it again but... though the spirit is willing the flesh is far too worn out!
