Gaz: I fancy some High Level Cans luv. Wife: How much? Gaz: Oh ONLY about £500ish Wife: ...................................... Gaz: I'll take that as a no then. So it got me thinking. I have set of std low level exhausts, not in great shape but OK. I was originally looking at coring them, so I took the end bit (technical term) off. I thought the outer sleeve would come off OK but it was a bit of a pig. I intend to replace it with carbon so I took the grinder to it and split it down it's length. I then cut out the unwanted baffles in the middle and end. These are the ZDM-A04 B04 early 90's. I have seen a thread on coring and possibly the later models are different inside (so be warned). I have been on and off with these for a while and while messing the other week I thought I would try them on some high level hanger I had previously bought. Just sticking the other end bit in the outer tube it rotated to somewhere like it would fit. A new hole needs to be drilled in the inner part which I am going to put a Rivnut in and then I need to make another large washer with a Rivnut in for the other bracket hole. I am trying to do this without welding, which I think is going to compromise the internal support for the bracket and the central perforated tube - but we shall see. I modelled a link pipe up and a lad at work 3d printed it. I am still messing with the angle as he could only print 100mm high so it does not fully locate in the pipes and still feels a bit wobbley (another technical term). I am going to get him to do another in 2 parts and split in the middle so it can be rotated to exact angle. I found an exhaust supplier who can bend and expand pipe so once I have the correct angle I will see how much for a couple of samples. I was going to go over the exhaust inlet pipe with the link pipe to keep the diameter as big as possible and I thought it looked better, but going inside removes an expanded end from the link pipe hopefully making it cheaper. Also inside is better for sealing as gasses are not going straight up the joint, and I am sure a bit of sealant can be used. Once I get the link pipe to fit I will see about the packing and fixing the bits together. I don't really know how it will perform, it may kill it or give it another 10 hp, anyway it keeps me out of trouble. Cheers Gaz
Cant believe you even asked your wife this question in the first place! First rule of motorcycle builds is don't talk about motorcycle builds
A great idea, and you can get sleeves and other parts from PJ Engineering. I have used them for bits before, for gas tight rivets etc
Desmo, Yes I was going to go to PJ Eng for the carbon, perforated tube, packing and a few other bits. Cheers Gaz
