Trackside, it’s 0.5m at 45° to the outlet and I’m guessing at around 6000rpm. I need to check what the Aprilia is. Ducati claim the Panigale V4 with race system and version 2 db killers is 107db. The Multistrada race system uses less complicated db killers and I have no doubt it will be closer to 105db. My MoT tester routinely adds the advisory ‘loud exhaust’ on anything not original road spec, even if it’s EU homologated. One of my regular destinations in the Eiffel Forest has banned bikes at weekends during the summer and as said, Austria is getting very strict. Had no issues in France but my 1200 end can, whilst quite loud, is EU homologated Andy
I’ll measure this at the weekend on both Pani and Multi. Termi’s on SF V4S were rated that sort of DB and that used to give me a headache after a long ride. No way on earth does the Multi full system with reach 105db.
105db is not offensively loud to other motorcyclists but it gets you turned away from standard track days across the UK where the static test is 102db. Andy
I wonder how exactly these DB levels are measured. Last weekend I measured a friends Pani V4SP with Akra slips ons, db killers removed, on cold start approx 1m behind the exhaust prob 40 deg from the outlet and it was measuring around 89db. I then measured my Pani V4S the same way with db killers fitted, measured around 86db, so feck it, I've had the db killers removed At the weekend though I'm going to try measuring both my Pani and Multi as Andy stated, just to see what they measure. Theres no way though the Multi full Akra is 105db, no way on earth.
No one rides around at tickover speeds though. Just for info there are plans to introduce restrictions in parts of the Dolomites next summer too.

I've just picked up my Pani V4S with the DB killers removed from the cans. It's not hugely louder than with them in. Anyway just tested with a DB Meter app on my iPhone, measured 87db. In the past I compared my iphone reading with a DB Meter bought from Amazon and results where pretty much identical. I'm most likely taking the Multi to work tomorrow, so I'll get the readings from that.
I have a V4S with 20k miles on it now - a couple of comments. Throttle spacers - Had them on my 1260 and they made a difference. On the V4 I don't need them, it is responsive on the throttle with no lag at all in any mode, maybe that is just my bike. Full systems, Akro etc - I don't find any drop off in the torque on the V4 at any revs, it just pulls like a train all the time! My mate has the Akro full system on his V4, the difference is that it is a bit louder and a deeper note in the car park; on the road I know when he changes gear but that is about it. I wouldn't hear that on my V4 because any exhaust noise (which is happening behind you) is drowned out by the V4 airbox roar (which is louder than the 1260) at above 6-7 k revs. When riding at pace any extra noise is for the appreciation (or annoyance) of others on or beside the road. I like quiet, stealthy bikes If you want noise get an old classic bike, ULEZ Compliant, no emissions or noise tests!
I've just measured the DB levels from my Akra full system on the Multi V4S. Held my iPhone approx 50cm behind the exhaust at approx 45 deg, held the revs around 5k, I had a reading of 87db. These noise apps and DB meters you can buy also take into account ambient noise which can be 30-45db approx. It would be could to here from anyone who's actually had their bike measured for nice trackside and what process they used. Also if they have some kind of special db meter. I tried one bought from Amazon in the past and it was giving identical results as my iPhone so returned it.
Still don’t understand the fascination with loud exhausts… it’s not as if these bikes don’t have more power than any of us can use on the road anyway? Just more noise to piss people off and help getting all bikes banned (yes Harley Davidson I’m looking at you!)
The full V4 system IMHO is not loud, especially compared to the full V2 system. It’s a nice tone, helps the engine breath better and is unlikely to draw the attention of Dibble. Without tempting fate, I don’t recall a single rider having an insurance claim questioned because of a pipe and the Police seem, round here anyway, to turn a bind eye. Piss takers notwithstanding.
A friend wrote his GS off a few weeks ago and his insurers are questioning the aftermarket exhaust he has fitted. Its not even a race can.
Querying his claim for replacement/value of aftermarket system or the whole claim? Or fact it caused accident/claim?
I wouldn’t fit an aftermarket exhaust to a new bike any more, only what the manufacturer will supply. Peace of mind and all that.
