Tips On Cleaning Plastic

Discussion in 'Detailing and cleaning' started by vivopol, Sep 27, 2023.

  1. hey all, anyone got any tips for cleaning the plastic side panels on the Diavel, the ones that are ribbed/textured near the bars, mine have white from polishing (before my ownership) and just washing doesn’t get them clean

  2. Wd40 mate, I use it on plastic all the time. Makes um nice and shiney again.

  3. I like to use aristowax wood silk furniture polish. It has beeswax in and makes plastics look new. Just use sparingly though :)

  4. I use ACF50 on the black plastics, just a small amount polished in brings them up like new and it lasts too

  5. Smooth peanut butter

  7. I’ve used peanut butter on greyed black/dark plastics with excellent results, what’s more, the plastics have stayed black and looking great for about 6 months after the first treatment

  11. Clean the plastics with a soft super clean rag damped with a little meths or white spirit. Apply Owatrol - £20 for a enough to last a lifetime from Amazon. You will need a small 15mm paint brush to apply it.

So far one application -that took 10 mins to do- has lasted 7 months on my Mini and the near white/ grey plastics (when I bought the car) all still look new. There's about £19.94 worth remaining in the tin.

Equally important, I also have all my peanut butter to eat on crusty bread, and there's no dogs licking my mudguards.

  12. @Jez900ie ....Owatrol sounds interesting stuff, great if it can restore sun 'bleached' plastics! Any warnings on the tin as to getting the stuff on painted surfaces?
Googling the stuff, looks like it'll be great for 'faded' upvc windows and doors :upyeah: Thnx

Not sure about using peanut butter..... my orange KTM and 'Tangerine Scream' ST attract enough insects in summer as it is lol

  13. Owatrol is the biz.

I got some Owatrol on my Mini paint and it doesn't harm it at all. I wiped it off, and was careful but its not a concern - no need to mask off. Here's sunbleached black plastics before and after a ten minute Owatrol fix

The mudguard looks shinier in the pic than it is when you see it in person - I took that pic on a very bright day. Also the plastics are all just as black today after seven eight months of weather, 4000miles and several washes.

  17. I know just what you mean ....

.... if you leave it any longer the peanut butter goes rancid , and then mould starts to grow on it .

    Sorry .... coat fetching time ( again ) ...... :D

  18. Don't use thinners or scourer pad.

  19. Autoglym trim polish is very good but doesn’t last very long. Very shiny but you need to reapply often.
