Ducati Day Silverstone 8th August Moved

  1. Surely they are insured for unforeseen cancellations? We were so blessed with amazing weather such a shame to lose essential track time. I had to take a week off work, sort accommodation, hire a van and travel 4 hours+ so quite an investment for half a day.

  2. I can imagine insurance for a trackday is so horrendously expensive that’s it’s difficult to cover for many issues that might occur.

  3. Be thankful that you went home to your family that day. That should be enough compensation.

  4. I am always thankful, thankful I have my bike, thankful that I’m able to ride and thankful to God for keeping me safe, but I don’t get to ride often and do very few trackdays and it was a massive commitment, so sorry, I don’t share your opinion.

  5. The pictures from the day are up on Picman’s website. I doubt Ducati will be making contact with anyone, or Silverstone.

Here’s the link to what photos were taken: https://picman.co.uk/albums.php?alb=2313812

  6. Alas trackdays are always a risk. Weather. Red flags. Bike troubles. Unless it’s canned due to weather in forest session, don’t hold your breath in anything even a credit note.

  7. Over the years I have been at a couple of days with fatalities. Track was closed as police are obviously involved and no refunds.
Having seen both incidents close to hand thoughts about recompense were never in my mind.
If you are worried about losing half a track day for whatever reason, you are engaging in the wrong hobby.

  8. Thank you

  9. Dying on track or at work, which is better!
You should be very thankful if you can personally absorb £190 per 20 minute session, but perhaps you should also be humble enough to not to judge others situation or their commitment to what they love.

  10. A bit of respect wouldn’t go amiss buddy. The guy who died was from Ducati Worcester. He no doubt has friends on here. Friends who were with him that day.

PM me your bank details. What was it… £275 for the day? I’ll send you £137.50 to cover your losses for the afternoon.

    Harry.

  11. You don’t really deserve a reply as you have got me and the situation completely wrong. It’s sad of course but we were all doing what we love, personally I’m glad he was enjoying his day on track and not at work.
And as for £137.50? don’t make me laugh, but I’ll take you up on your offer, please send the money to the Air Ambulance, I’m sure everyone on the forum would be delighted see just how generous you are.

  12. You are correct that it is a lot of money for a small return and in the normal scheme of things where the organiser did not provide the service paid for I would say go for it and get your money back.
In this case I believe you are incorrect, it could not have been catered for and so you will have to go with it.
As I said earlier if this outlay is excessive then try something else. You don't know my circumstances or what I give up to do all manners of motocyling, but in the two instances I mentioned I never went to try and get some money returned.

  13. I agree with you. My initial post was regarding contact from Ducati and Silverstone about the situation, as they stated at the time they would be in contact and I had heard nothing which I felt was poor PR. The Silverstone staff member that spoke to our pit garage mentioned a rebook or refund hence my comment.
I’ve missed two days this year with inclement weather and as you said, it is what it is, we all make sacrifices for this hobby.
I’ve been a bit defensive due to some of the responses re money and the fact I lost my father to cancer the week before the Trackday, and I apologise to all for that, but personally, I’d rather die of a heart attack on track than a horrendous, painful cancer.

  14. I think we have to accept that trackdays can result in little riding for a lot of outlay.
Fatalities mean the trackday organisers and circuit are no longer in control of the situation, it becomes a police and legal matter.
I do agree it’s poor there has been no contact from either Ducati UK or Silverstone since.
