1200 DVT 1200 Dvt Misfire Stutter Low Down

  1. 2015 DVT
Has a misfire low down in the revs , I’ve changed all 4 spark plugs but it still there

The misfire happens up to 4000rpm once you are over 4k the bike pulls like a train and runs exactly how it should
If you are 3rd gear at about 3k rpm it’s a dog to ride

worth mentioning that the exhaust flap was skewed so now the cable is disconnected and the flap is wired open, would that cause they symptoms I’m getting ?

  2. MAP sensors or plug leads, maybe.
Phone round your local independents and see if someone has a Texa reader to check for codes.

  3. Have you disconnected the exhaust flap servo motor and put a servo eliminator plug into the cable?
If not and the servo motor is jammed then it may still think that the flap is shut

  4. I fought this for a bit and it was plug leads. The main ones are the ones I replaced and it sorted it out perfectly. There is a thread here somewhere, started by me where I have tried to describe exactly what the symptoms were

  5. So,
Had the bike plugged in this morning on a texa and it showed the faults below
I’m pretty sure the misfire will be cause by the injection control unit fault.

has anyone seen this before? , where on the bike is the injection control unit ?

google isn’t giving me anything definitive

  6. Or does anyone know if the BBS unit fault and the injection control fault are linked ?

  7. All the texa is showing is where the errors are. Did you open up each control unit and see what the actual errors are?
The BBS runs the exhaust valve so my first guess will be that is lighting up the BBS error?
Injection unit could be any of dozens of specific errors tbh.
As mentioned my first guess would be HT leads on the central plugs or the MAP sensors. Plugs are fired sequentially so that would be my first port of call with the symptoms you describe. Ducati have updated the leads as it’s quite common

  8. I wonder if as an easy and free check on the leads, put a strobe light on and when you give a good blip on the throttle it may show an erratic flash? Wish I had done that first rather than endless stripping off stuff like tank and airbox etc In my case it was the front cyl although I replaced both main leads front and rear

  9. Thanks I’ve got the bike stripped now so I’ll order 2 main plug leads and a couple, MAF Sensors tomorrow, were your symptoms the same as mine ? I would have thought a bad plug lead would have a misfire right through the rev range

  10. The plugs on each cylinder aren’t fired together on DVT motors. The centre primary plug is fired at lower rpm, both are fired at higher rpm’s

  11. Ah ok got ya , thanks for that, I’ll maybe hold off on the sensors for now then and just order the 2 plug leads and see where we go from there

  12. So
Strange one , I’ve changed 2 central plug leads and now it runs fine in lower revs and the EML has gone out.

but, as soon as you give it a hand full of throttle it bogs down and pops and bangs it didn’t do that before .

  13. It surely must be something I’ve spline cause the original fault has disappeared but it’s brought on a different fault

Even when on tick over if you blip the throttle it’s popping and banging now

  14. Have you made 100% sure that all the plug leads are pushed home fully at both ends? my advise is to, one by one, replace the new ones with the old one to see what happens. New leads should not make anything worse!
Be patient, when running properly these are an amazing machine. Giving trouble like this, DAMHIK, you can just feel like giving up!

  15. Yep I think I’m ready to take offers on the bike

  16. So just been having a look at the bike , when it’s ticking over and you blip the throttle it pops and bangs and back fires, but if I disconnect the vertical cylinder side plug lead the popping and banging stops , although it runs like crap

I’ve got 2 DVT’s on the same year so I’ve swapped the plug leads off that one and it’s still the same, I also swapped all the coil packs and it’s still the same
So it’s not the plugs , not the plug leads and not the coils packs.

What about a map sensor ?
I’ve ordered a map sensor from moto rapido so I’ll try them tomorrow when it arrives

the next thing I’m going to check is the timing marks but after that I’m stuck

  17. Timing marks look ok to me at TDC on the horizontal unless anyone sees anything different ?
