1199 Test Fan For Dummies

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Simon Evans, Oct 5, 2023.

  1. Ok had a situation yesterday in Toronto temperature was 30 degrees plus humidity. Riding home from work my 1199s reached HIGH on the temperature scale (Over 120 i believe) the red FAN square box warning came on and yellow engine light. Bike functioning normally however. All went out when bike cooled down. At no point did the fan come on. First time experiencing no fan but googling sounds like this has come up a few times with people. I didn't read a definitive resolution though. Any ideas a simple way, for dummies, for me to test the fan is working. Also sometimes my green neutral light doesn't work when the bike gets very hot but don't think that is relevant.

  2. check the connection to the fan at the loom, mine was badly heat damaged and also the fan didn't function at first.
I assume fluid levels are fine?

  4. On my 1299, the fan message came up on the dash. I removed it, and connected 12 volts from the battery, to eliminate the possibility of faulty heat sensor, fuses, etc, but still did not work. I used a long screwdriver to try to turn the fan blades, but was very stiff to turn. I cleaned it, then sprayed the hell out of it with WD40. Turned better with the screwdriver now, and pulsed fast, then slow with the motor connected to a spare battery. Had to replace with one from Ebay in the end.
