Still need to be careful even if it’s supplied by the manufacturer as I did this but was not made aware of the race only bit just bought it as a full system , my fault I suppose and should have checked but in the joy of a new bike and extras I did not check , will now or find a broker that will accept it on the schedule .
Has anyone fitted the Evotech “Garmin” sat nav mount, https://evotech-performance.com/col...v-mount-ducati-multistrada-v4-pikes-peak-2022 ? At £85, it’s a third of the price of the Ducati offering, which I’ve heard, can be a bit vibey ? Andy
I've got that exact same mount on my Multi V4S, any mount at that position will have a certain amount of wobble / vibration due to the play in the screen sliding mounts. Theres a few options available to mount in that area. If i'm honest I wish I'd purchased the iConic parts mount instead: MULTISTRADA V4, V4S, PIKES PEAK, DEVICE MOUNT (TYPE: GPS - Mounting plate is made to fit Garmin, TomTom and most Quadlock mounts) (iconicparts.uk) Personally I think its a tidier solution and leaves the screen free and easier to clean behind it.
I've had the Evotech on other bikes, it's a bit wobbly on the V4 apparently, so I've got the Iconic mount, which is rock solid.
Thank you for the tip, much appreciated. Had a look at the YouTube installation video which seems simple enough. Andy
I've got the Iconic mount and use it with a Garmin ZumoXT. Still get some wobble but that comes from the screen mount not the Iconic mount which is firmly bolted to the screen mount. The wobble/vibration is not a major problem but is becoming increasing frequent given the deteriorating condition of the road surfaces in England.
Having a poke around t’internet and see that the new Garmin Zumo XT2 is nearly 30% heavier than the original XT. Any opinion on the durability of the Iconic plastic mounting brackets ? I ask as a couple of people fed back that their mounts failed. Andy
The wobble on both the Evotech and Iconic mount will be the same. It comes from the actual screen mount itself. A friend of mine has the iConic mount, same wobble as mine. Its not distracting in anyway.
It’s not the wobble that’s put the question in my mind, it’s the added stress on the holes in the two plastic mounts caused by the increase in weight of the XT. I’m sure for a small manufacturing concern like Iconic, 3D printing is a convenience over injection moulding but at the back of my mind, I have a feeling a fabricated aluminium bracket would be stronger. It has also just crossed my mind, is there enough room behind the screen to accommodate the bigger XT2 ? Too many unknowns, time to get off the internet and look again when the bike is on its way to the dealership Andy
I’ve got the evotech mount with a Garmin XT and it’s perfect, feels very solid, only slight movement is in the screen mount not the bracket, and there is no fear it’s going to snap as it all alloy black powder coated and looks really smart imho. I was a little concerned that the iconic mount is plastic, and was worried about the fixing points snapping, although some on here are happy with it.
You can only speak as you find and this forum is renowned for it’s honest opinion My problem is, I overthink stuff and get sucked into the research Andy
30% heavier? Really? I've not noticed that with my XT2, if anything it feels lighter. And it fits behind the screen on my PP just the same as the XT did.
I am on V3 of the Iconic mounts (two broke but parts replaced FoC) The new mounts I have are steel ones not plastic so they wont break where the 3D printed plastic bits did. There is some wobble (on a TT 550) but not that bad and it is due to the screen mount itself, the new metal side parts should hold the extra weight of a Garmin. Re the Evoetch solution - it is a bit agricultural, made of steel and quite heavy, it will never break! I got one when my Iconic broke before a trip and I still have it, you are welcome to try it out. There is one major drawback with the Evotech mount - IME - it mounts behind the screen on the screen mounts and as a result it interrupts the airflow between the screen and the black plastic screen mount unit. The result is that, for me , there was much more turbulence and noise with the Evotech mount than with the Iconic, I was very happy to get Iconic mount back on the bike with the new metal plates !
Ah, someone who has actually “upgraded”, great. The XT 2 is 80 gms heavier, approximately 340 gms against the XT which is approximately 260 gms (both figures slightly rounded down). Good news that there is room under the screen Be interested to see how robust the Iconic mount is over time as that was what one customer found. Andy
I take forever to type, one fingered so you have actually provided the answer. The original 2 plastic mounts are now metal and that makes perfect sense. Thank you. Andy
I can’t say I’ve noticed any weight difference. Am pretty sure my Iconic mount is metal, nothings fallen off in 18 months/ over 8000 miles
That's interesting to hear. Going to take some rides with the mount removed, must admit I hadn't ridden my Multi much without the mount in place, so thought the wind noise was normal.
Well took the Multi for blast this morning, yep 100% have to agree, defo less wind noise without the Evotech mount. I'm going to give the handlebar mount a try, its actually nice have the screen unobstructed again EP Garmin Compatible Handlebar Clamp Sat Nav Mount | Ducati Multistrada V4 S – Evotech-Performance
Just had an exchange of emails with Sarah at Iconics and the metal brackets are described as ‘offroad mounting brackets’, https://iconicparts.uk/shop/ols/products/multistrada-v4-v4s-device-mount/v/DUC-208-13, which are available separately. Andy
